Mercedes Wins Yellow Angel Award For Bluetec Diesel

In keeping with this morning's awards theme, Mercedes has just been graced with yet another accolade, this time earning the ADAC (German Automobile Association) "Yellow Angel" award for "Innovation of the Year.

The award was given to recognize Mercedes' latest BLUETEC Technology, a system that substantially reduces diesel emissions and allows diesel vehicles to meet the even the world's most stringent emission standards.

To arrive at their decision, a jury made up of experts from the ADAC, VDA (Association of the German Automotive Industry), VDIK (German Motor Vehicle Importers Association) and ZDK (German Motor Vehicle Trade Association) were given a selection of 32 different outstanding innovations, and ultimately, Mercedes' BLUETEC technology was declared the victor.

I should also mention that in addition to capturing the "Innovation of the Year" award, Mercedes' Night View Assist Technology was also nominated in the same category, and in the end it managed to capture the runner-up spot.

How is the MB nightvision different from the Cadillac nightvision? They use the same technology from the sounds of it. Mercedes' nightvision is probably better because they've had about 5 years to work on it.

Yeah, the Cadillac night vision kind of sucks.

The Merc system displays it on the navigation screen, while there's nothing you can see except through the windshield on the last-gen DeVille.

But from what I've heard, the S550's night vision has no depth perception and is just a fancy gimmick, à la Lexus self-park.

DaimlerChrysler ads must give mileage-German court

FRANKFURT, Jan 17 (Reuters) - DaimlerChrysler (DCXGn.DE: Quote, Profile , Research) has to reveal how much fuel its cars use when it highlights the high performance of its engines in advertisements, a German court has ruled.

A court spokesman in the carmaker's home city of Stuttgart on Wednesday confirmed the ruling, which arose from a lawsuit filed by environmentalist group Deutsche Umwelthilfe (DUH).

"DaimlerChrysler's transparent attempt to hush up the carbon dioxide emissions from models that are especially harmful to the climate has failed," DUH attorney Remo Klinger said in a statement.

"We will respect the court's ruling," a company spokeswoman said.

Hmmm, perhaps they're coming to their senses finally. Atleast it will show how much diesel actually increases their dependence on oil.

I'll chalk this one up to Angela Merkel eventhough I doubt she had anything to do with it.
