3.9 liters for every 100 km! Couple that with brilliant driving dynamics and great performance and you have a winner..

Why do people buy hybrids again?

Because Toyota says so!!! So therefore they MUST be right. They invented the wheel so therefore they can rightfully claim to have invented everything with one.

Mini people were strange to begin with. Now your going to attract all the tree huggers too?

If I were a Mini salesperson, I would be looking for a new job immediately!

Playing catch up as usual. Toyota had smiliar numbers back in 2003. HSD3 will make it no contest whatsoever. 100mpg, even when loaded down with German cement.

Why do Europeans buy diesel again? Oh, that's right, because VW et al bribe the gov't to susidize it. How forgetful of me. Why sell a $10,000 gas car if you can sell a $12,000 diesel car, especially when its the taxpayer footing the bill to makeup the money lost on diesel taxes.

Diesel is NOT subsidized in Europe. Most of the price difference is due to government policy, however. Gasoline has higher taxes per liter than does diesel, which makes it cheaper to buy, but it is still heavily taxed.
In the Florida, diesel is usually as expensive as gasoline, sometimes, more, because they assume that if you're buying less than 50 gallons at a time, you're driving a Mercedes.

The tax is not higher on diesel fuel than petro in the U.K., and still, the U.K.'s new car registrations equal over 40% diesel cars.

The percentage of diesel car purchases just hit 70% in France. Highest diesel percentage ever for a G8 country.

Diesel doesn't smell bad if you blend it with 20% or more biodiesel; and with biodiesel, unlike ethanol, there are no worries about how much can be blended in each engine design; all diesels can use any blend of biodiesel. And biodiesel, unlike ethanol, has high energy density. Cummins research indicates that a diesel driver, driving with 100% biodiesel (B100) would lose only five to seven percent fuel economy. E85 users can expect to lose about 25%; more if we design cars to use E100 (www.fueleconomy.gov--ethanol-fueled vehicles).

Most Americans don't think gasoline stinks, but believe that diesel fuel stinks only because most of us have become accustomed to the smell of gasoline. Truth is, they both stink; it's just what one gets used to. Gasoline has a strong chemical smell; we just don't notice it anymore. The only disadvantage of diesel fuel is that it doesn't evaporate, so, if you get the fuel on your clothes, hands, or shoes, the smell will stick around for a while. The fact that diesel fuel does not evaporate is good news for the environment, however. Gasoline has a thing called evaporative emissions and is why the EPA asked that we fill up in the mornings or evenings. This is not a concern for diesel drivers.
