Most Luxurious Jeep Grand Cherokee Ever Breaks Cover
Jeep has thoroughly updated its Grand Cherokee range for 2008, with a range of new features and a new interior that makes this Jeep the most luxurious ever.

New soft-touch interior dashboard materials, interior colours and new textures all help to make the new Grand Cherokee even more desirable while a host of new features – tilt and telescope steering column, improved steering wheel and armrests for improved ergonomics and comfort, new instrument clusters and floor console with improved cup holders – all add to the high-class ambience.

In addition, Limited and Overland models get a new leather-wrapped parking brake handle and the Overland gets a new leather package on seats, doors and dashboard and heated second row seats.

The MyGIG infotainment system is a new option that offers owners the very latest integrated onboard systems. There’s MP3 player compatibility, a touch screen controlled navigation system as well as the ability to store up to 1600 songs on an integrated 20GB hard drive. The UConnect Hands-free Communication System uses Bluetooth technology to provide voice-activated wireless communication.

On the exterior, a new front fascia and grille surround with a new body-colour front sill and air dam give the latest Grand Cherokee a more modern look, together with a new range of alloy wheels and a new headlamp design.

Simon Elliott, Managing Director of Chrysler UK Ltd, said: “Our new leather package helps create a sumptuous interior to cosset driver and passengers and offers everything that customers want from a luxury SUV without the excessive price tag. As usual the latest Jeep offers outstanding value for money and the efficiency of a Mercedes-Benz diesel engine across the range.”

The latest Grand Cherokee is also still hard to beat off-road. Hill Descent Control now comes as standard on diesel models and is designed to mimic the safe downhill control offered by the ultra-low gearing usually found in hard-core off-road vehicles like the Jeep Wrangler Rubicon.

Elliott added: “If you think that all of these off-road gadgets never get used then think again. Driving up or down ice or snow covered roads will be made safer with 4×4 and Hill Descent Control, while anyone who has ever towed anything in wet and slippery road conditions can appreciate the benefits of being able to control your speed down a steep hill.”

For 2008, a whole new model will also be added to the range – the Grand Cherokee S-Limited.

The S-Limited model includes all of the refinements for 2008 and adds many of the visual enhancements that make the high-performance Grand Cherokee SRT-8 such a visual feast. These standard features include SRT-inspired exterior features including front fascia and side sill moulding, unique ‘Arrowhead’ 18-inch alloy wheels, SRT body-coloured wire mesh front grille and body coloured wing mirrors, rear spoiler and deep tint windows. On the inside the S-Limited gets the MyGIG ‘entertainment’ system as standard, SRT-8 leather steering wheel, gear shifter and aluminium bezel finishes and dark slate grey leather interior trim on seats, doors and dashboard.

2008 Interior Specification changes:

MyGIG Multimedia Entertainment System with DVD and MP3 compatibility (optional on Limited)
MyGIG Multimedia Infotainment System with satellite navigation, which also includes UConnect (Bluetooth) (optional)
Tilt and telescope steering column and new steering wheel
New instrument clusters
New floor console with improved cup holders
Limited and Overland models get a new leather-wrapped parking brake

Available from March 2008, the new range consists of the 3.0 CRD, Limited, S-Limited, and Overland models all with a diesel engine. The Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT-8 - the quickest, most powerful Jeep ever made – with a 6.1-litre V8 petrol engine will continue to top the range in the UK.

Love the Grand Cherokee, what a list of options available, tryin to move upscale from it's cousins. Headlamp washers, HIDs, etc. not bad for a freshen up!

I have an SRT8 and it is as much fun to drive as my Porsche 911. Plus I can fit all of my tailgate equipment in and still blow away 90% of the cars on the road.

This interior improvement should have been implemented earlier.

farabira1,
This is not a bad turnaround for an improvement. You have to remember, the Cerberus executive management has been there for just over 7 months. They've jumped on the product portfolio and they are making changes quicker than anyone else in the industry. Granted, they needed to, but something must be said for them recognizing this and acting quickly.

This kind of interior quality needs to be on ALL Chrysler models ASAP.From the Challenger/300 SRT8 to the base Caliber.

The last two versions of the Grand Cherokee seemed to be trying to break into the upscale category for the Jeep brand. It would be nice to see real leather, more attention to detail, and a softer ride for a near-luxury-appointed GC model.

Two points:

Mini22 - You are comparing Chrysler to Dodge, yes same company in all, but Dodge is the Toyota, Nissan, Honda, Ford, Chevy Competitor and Chrysler is supposed to be the luxury division.

Dumpsty - a Jeep that rides like a car is not something the Grand Cherokee will do anytime soon. Not when it has a 4WD system that puts the others in the class to shame. The only one that could keep pace would maybe be the Hummer H3/2, but even that is clunky and gets worse mileage without these features. It's what makes Jeep stand out from the others, if you wanna REALLY go off road or drive through some deep deep snow, forget your Pilot and 4 Runner, get yourself the real deal.

Whelan - I agree. But most people who buy the high end versions of Grand Cherokees don't take it off-road (seriously). An SRT8 isn't meant for off-roading, so it would make sense to make the suspension as soft as possible for the best on-road experience (considering the performance aspects 1st, of course).

I can same the same about the Limited versions also. Yeah, it has a Hemi, but it has all the luxury goodies any other luxury car or SUV has too. It would be nice if the model can be ordered with a "street and road" option or comes with an adjustable suspension to switch between off-road capabilities and on-road smoothness.

Though the GC isn't the most expensive SUV out there, it can get rather pricey, and for the money, they should consider more options for the "on-road" consumer.

Whelan the 4Runner is truck based.

You meant 'Highlander'.

Agreed it could offer a road and street option with a softer suspension, or at least an adjustable one for sport, road, and 4x4. I think the problem there lies with the fact that the Jeeps suspension is built for the heavy duty tranny and transfer case for off-roading ability. The SRT8 is not an off roader in anyway, at least I would never take it there. But my fathers 03 Grand Cherokee Laredo can get you through stuff you would shy away from in most other SUVs. And my fiances 05 Liberty Renegade (with the lightbar installed by me) is just insane fun on trails.

And yes M35, I meant Highlander.

The Grand Cherokee was special for almost a decade, I owned three, 93,95,97 and at those times there was nothing else like a Grand Cherokee V-8. Now it is nothing special, there are many better SUV's. Jeep needs to do better than this, not that is bad it is just not a stand out.

You can barely take an SRT8 out in the rain or snow let alone off roading. too much torque at the low end that in bad weather the wheels spin very easily and the traction has to kick in.
