NASCAR BUSCH Switching To Pony Cars, So Should Toyota Run A Supra?
NASCAR hopes to inject new life into its Busch Series by changing the types of cars raced, beginning as early as 2009, according to multiple sources familiar with the project.

If plans go according to schedule, the next-generation Busch Series cars will be Chevrolet Camaros, Dodge Challengers, Ford Mustangs and an as-yet-to-be named Toyota model, sources said. Ford overhauled the Mustang as a 1960s-retro model in 2005, to positive critical and commercial results. Chevrolet and Dodge will release similarly retro-themed Camaros and Challengers, respectively, by the 2009 model year.

The Mustang, Camaro and Challenger all are two-door coupes with rear-wheel drive and available V-8 engines, a hugely popular combination in the halcyon days of 1960s muscle cars.

Sound like a very good plans. This make lots of sense instead of the current FWD 4 doors family cars.

Interesting to have a series switch on you and then you really don't have a car the fits in the specified category.

The closest pony car would be a Supra, I guess.

What would be the difference between this and the Speed World Challenge? That race already races souped up versions of regular looking vehicles, even the American Le Mans series has the same idea for their GT1 & GT2 classes, except they include more European makes.

Nascar is trying to broaden the appeal. Speedworld is increasing in penetration, and actually so it Grand Am.

Busch is like an unwanted step child. It will primarily be just a sheet metal change. I doubt it involve more than that.

a supra using the 1UZ v8 motor would be pretty nice. Or they can use the reworked IS-F 5.0L motor.

Probably the spec motor used in both Craftsman and Nextel series.

Do you know anything about nascar, dumbass? They use a league-specified pushrod V8. The cars are not mechanically related to anything on the street.

I think if Nascar decides to go this route, will this eventually affect the Rolex Sports Car Series, as it is operated by Grand American Road Racing Association, which is headed by several members of the NASCAR community?

I guess it depends on the construction and regulations of the racecars but then again it still might affect the sports car racing organizations. Will not so diehard fans or unknowledgeable spectator be able to differentiate a Mustang in the Nascar Busch series to that running in the Rolex Sports Car Series or FIA GT3 class? There might be obvious cues to seperate the NASCAR regulated cars to that uses FIA standards but you know most of the people who are not into cars will not be able to know the difference. I've had a guy ask about a Pagani Zonda F in a magazine I was reading if it was a Lamborghini.
