NASCAR FIASCO: Number One Toyota Entry For Daytona 500 Disqualified for Cheating
NASCAR announced Wednesday that it has confiscated the primary car of the No. 55 Toyota team that competes in the Nextel Cup Series with driver Michael Waltrip, as a result of rule violations found during pre- and post-qualifying inspection for the Daytona 500.

Crew chief Larry (David) Hyder and the team's vice president of competition Bobby Kennedy have been ejected from this week's events at Daytona International Speedway and suspended indefinitely. Hyder also has been fined $100,000.

NASCAR also penalized Waltrip with the loss of 100 driver points. His qualifying time from pole day on Feb. 11 was disallowed.

Now come on guys. Is that really putting the best foot forward. To cheat in your first ever NASCAR race?

That's really fcukd up.

Corporate Toyota will be blamed for something they probably didn't have knowledge of. It would've been nice for Toyota to have had a clean start in the series to really gauge their competitiveness.

The sad thing is they are associated to team now. It will be a PR nightmare. Luckily there are other Toyota teams to carry the banner.

See Toyota is doing everything in there power to take over the world.

Stealing races, and American profits.

Ok in all seriousness. I hope this is isolated, and in no way connected to higher ups.

I would SERIOUSLY doubt Toyota would have known of this.

But I bet it does cast in doubt the association with the Waltrip team for next year.

I was joking about the American profits/jobs thing. I am pro world economy :)

Yes I also doubt anyone high up at Toyota had any clue.

I can guarantee you all this...cheating does happen in NASCAR [no duh], but little cheating here and there.

Major stuff like this...you don't pull that shit and it goes away quietly. NASCAR will rip this apart and Toyota will be just fine.

Their only problem will be making sure they can match up against the Chevy's and Fords....and those Dodge's too.

#20!

Hahaaa... The bias in this stupid article is soo funny . Other then Waltrips suspension and fine were the others from Roush Racing (FORD) etc.
"NASCAR suspended the crew chiefs for Matt Kenseth, Kasey Kahne, Scott Riggs and Elliott Sadler and docked all four drivers points before the season-opening Daytona 500..."

"But Roush Racing already has a replacement for Reiser, and said the 500 will be the first race he has missed since the team's inception in 1999 -- a stretch of 255 races.

Reiser and Francis may not appeal because delaying the suspension could cause them to miss the debut of the Car of Tomorrow at Bristol Motor Speedway in March.

In toughening its penalties, NASCAR made the unprecedented move of taking points away before the season has even started. Kahne and Kenseth were docked 50 points apiece, while Riggs and Sadler lost 25 each.

Reiser and Francis also were fined $50,000 each, while Childers and Brown were fined $25,000 each.

All four drivers will start the season with negative points -- a move that most likely infuriated the teams, but sent a strong message that NASCAR will no longer tolerate rule-breakers."

Funnily, nobody mentions FORD or Dodge in the cases above but gleefully mention Toyota despite Waltrip being an owner/driver.

In some ways Toyota deserves it. Nascar is the WWE of motor racing. So if you want to play int he gutter, expect shit to come your way.
Amen.

It is only called cheating when you get caught.
Only proves ToyLex does not know how to cheat.
It is called winning sometimes when you get do not get caught.
Likely other teams will be caught cheating soon enough,
unless this scares them off or they do not get caught.
Shame for ToyLex now and if they win in view of bad precedent.

I believe the higher ups from Boy Toy had no idea of this unfortunate situation. This is just one of those newbie foul-ups from a pretty good auto manufacturer. Boy Toy will bounce back.

PlanoA4,
I bet Toyota doesn't let them use their cars anymore. Waltrip is not Toyota. They provide the car, what Waltrip does is their own fault. You notice the other Toyota's weren't disqualified?

Welcome back though. Get ready for a beating.

Thank you Jeff Gordon for overlooking your ride. That'll shut up the anti-Toyota crowd who'll argue only Toyota cars cheat.

Of course, they'll probably argue Toyota juiced up (or in this case down) Jeffy's car.

Toyota had nothign to do with this. I think its stupid to think Toyota would come out in its first race and pull this.. This sounds like a team owner stunt.. Its to bad but then again it does make everyone talk about Toyota in Nascar.. umm kind of like the New Coke.. well it happened and thats what will be remembered about Toyotas first nascar race..
