New 500HP Jaguar XKR-R spied
Jaguar is rumored to be developing an even more potent model than the XKR and, as these latest spy images reveal, the car could be on sale sooner than you think. Targeting high-end sports cars like the Aston Martin V8 Vantage and Porsche 911 Turbo, the new car will likely get a significant power boost over the current XKR and feature many technologies shared with Jaguar’s GT3 racecar. The only noticeable difference over the regular XKR is the new front bumper, suggesting most of the changes will be under the skin. Read Article

They won't have a 600hp version. Why would they ever need that?

I wish that it looked more 'feline' and less Aston, but...

Very, very Nice effort.

As a matter of possibly superfluous clarification XKR-R is pronounced "XK Double R"

In terms of performance numbers the current XKR already completes with the Vantage- they have the same 0-60 time of 4.9 seconds.

The prices of course are not the same as the Jag is $20,000 less expensive. Despite the $110,000 MSRP on the Aston Martin I don't think I have ever seen one for less than around $120,000. The XKR is usually right at $100,000.

They can add power all they want. What they really need is a brand new engine design for all of their cars using modern technology like direct injection, VVT on intake and exhaust, how about a larger displacement for the V8 than 4.2 liters. Come on Infiniti has a 3.7 liter six by now. They need a modular engine design so they can create new and versatile 6 and 8 cylinder engines all while being cost effective. This old Ford based crap they is is one major reason why they cannot get any traction in the luxury car segment. It isnt rocket science.

The Audi 4.2L V8 is going strong... all they need is new technologies. Audi has been busy updating the 4.2 lately, and that's how they got 420hp out of the RS4- with 450 coming for the RS5. Jaguar can follow suit.

First, this car would have the 5.0 Liter V8.

Second, the AJ V8 is not derived from Ford. It was a brand new engine developed ONLY by Jaguar's engineering team. Now, versions of it have been used in different vehicles within Ford, including the Lincoln LS (small displacement), Land Rover and the Aston Martin V8 Vantage.

Look up the SAE technical paper on the engine, evey one of the authors has the following behind their name- Jaguar Cars Ltd. It clearly states that the engine was all new as well.
