New Lancer unveiled
"CYPRESS, Calif. — Mitsubishi will introduce the all-new 2008 Lancer compact sport sedan at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit.
The new-generation Lancer models arrive in Mitsubishi dealerships in early 2007, drawing on the lines of the Mitsubishi Concept-X first shown in 2005. The car features a "shark-nosed" front end inspired by jet fighter air intakes, a distinct wedge-like profile and crisp, taut lines, the company said. The car is based on a new global platform that also forms the foundation of the new Mitsubishi Outlander SUV.
All Lancers will be powered by an all-new 2.0-liter 152-horsepower four-cylinder engine mated to a five-speed manual transmission. The new Lancer will also be the first Mitsubishi in North America to offer an optional continuously variable transmission. Mitsubishi says the Lancer will be available in three levels of trim and driving dynamics: DE, ES and the sport-tuned GTS.
What this means to you: Mitsubishi is fighting its way back, bit by bit."

If you really look at it for a little bit you will notice that it looks like a CHEAPENED LEXUS IS250

I don't like that massive plastic rear bumper or that line that starts at the rear door handle and ends on the front fender.
It's called trendy and not original.

It's not nice. It looks cheap. What a pity! They cannot pay to some one to make nice designes for their car? We know all that designe is hugely important for car!
Why they do designs like this?

Is it just me or does anyone else see some of the Lexus IS's traits in this car, especially in the back. I think Mitsubishi is copying Lexus on their new vehicles. The Outlander = RX, Lancer = IS.

The front doesn't look like a Lexus, however. It looks live a Volvo S40.

You got to be kiding.. you think this looks like a Lexus??????? I am no fan of Lexus if you can't tell from my postings on there cars.. but at least when you look at a Lexus it doesn't hurt your eyes and for the most part they have a nice balance of design.. this thing looks like both the Ford and Volvo and they didn't pull it off as well
But at least this time around they tryed the last gen car looked like they they didn't care about design

I'll reserve my judgment until I read a review of how it drives. I really don't care how ugly it is, provided it delivers the goods.

I really like it!
It has enough attitude and style to be notable again.
Before, it was too tame, now people are criticizing it for being "too aggressive"? What?
It has unique styling, and I guess I just have a soft side for Mitsu. I've never owned one (and don't remember the last time I've ridden for them), but like Audi (though Audi is in a much better position), they're the underdog. I root for the underdog.

I never said I disliked the IS- the IS350 is a looker, definitely. But I'm not all that impressed with the overall sportiness, or the interior design.
And this looks more like a TL, in the side profile, than an IS. But, then, it looks like a Lancer. Why, oh why, do you compare every new car that comes out with something else? This applies to just about every Lexus fan!

I don't. I compare cars that look similar to other cars. For example, I never said that the new Mercedes E-Class looks like another car because it doesn't. It looks like a Mercedes. It's the cars that look similar to others that I compare.

The rear lights remind me of the IS the car has totally been cheapened from it's concept. I know concepts are supposed to look 10X better than the production but the level of trim that's put into this car is bare minimum which for this model is complete rubbish. I'm sure the new EVO will look outstanding with it's larger wheels and more aggressive styling cues.

lexusis350, I definitely agree with you bro! it a cheap rip off the Lexus IS250/350 especially the shape of the backlight. But the Lexus IS250/350 is still a much better look vechicle for sure.
I mean what do you expect when your parent company is Toyota and plus the success of it sibling "Lexus". I mean sooner or later everyone to start to copy your design or try to beat you.

That the problem with concept car, they always come out with a "Mouth Watering Concept" but when the actual production come out, you like..hey...what heck...! is that? it would be really nice when most car company make production vechicle as close as they can to the concept. The Lexus LS460 came into production almost identical to it production vechicle.

DUH!
The Mitsubishi EV0-X concept car looked better because it was the EVO version!
This new Lancer is just the standard version. It's basically the concept car without a spoiler and big wheels.
Also, the Lexus IS is so new that it could not be copied so early by another manufacturer, it takes YEARS to design a car, and most designs are signed off years before the car goes into production.

the rear light cluster is almost exactly like from the Alfa 156/159, even down to the small crease towards the inside. Though being bigger and placed high, it looks like a copy of the Lexus IS.
The front as many pointed out, looks to be taken from the new S40.
I think if it was wider and not as tall, the car will look better. While it looks awesome compared to the previous generation Lancer, this design looks awkward to me.

Yes like the one in the Alfa more than the IS actually. Still not bad for a compact.
