Tesla CEO Elon Musk set the automotive world abuzz last week when he announced at the company’s shareholder meeting that he has personally been testing new auto-pilot feature in his own vehicle. He then suggested that technology for a “driverless” Tesla will be ready within the next three years.
While Tesla has been no stranger to attention this year, with plans to launch a $5 billion “gigafactory” in Nevada, a new SUV in the works for this fall and tons of viral buzz around the Model S “Insane mode.” But the company is hardly alone when it comes to automotive innovation over the past year.
