Rupert Stadler, Audi’s CEO, is spilling the beans in Germany about Audi’s plans to begin revealing its ‘5' breed starting 2008 with a A5 Convertible followed by the Audi S5 Convertible.

The Audi S5 Convertible will debut after the A5 convertible which is due out in November of 2008. The S5 Convertible should carry the same 4.2 liter V8 enigne that produces 354 horsepower. Although a 450 horsepower Audi RS5 Convertible...

question ... what is going to happen to the Audi A4 conv then? A4 goes through a new body style which will be larger than the current one. Is audi going to phase out the A4 conv, then?

Yes. A5/S5 Cabriolets will replace the A4/S4 Cabriolets. I think "S4" sounds better than "S5," but S5 looks better, so whatever.

The A5 is a beautiful car (one of the few good looking Audi's) but I actually think it looks a little bland next to a Toyota Solara.

I just wanted to say that I saw and drove by a S5 on the PCH in Malibu, it was red and this car looks fantastic, it was actually slowing down the traffic because would slow down as they were driving by.

I can't wait to see the next A4 which is supposed to employ very many design characteristics of the A5. Coupes/Convertibles just aren't practical in my world right now.

Huh, by far the most beautiful in the category, But with the 335i priced less and having a hard top, It should be an interesting sell.

I know we all like to think the S5 competes against the 335i but it doesn't, S5 competes against the M3,RS5 vs M3 CSL.

Sorry optimisticpessimist, the RS5 does not compete against a stripped down, no A/C, no radio, no heated seats, bare bones, race-only car otherwise known as a BMW M3 CSL which costs over $30K more than it's base price.

rs competes with the far better and more successful m. the s competes with the 335 (or 550 depending on class) and the regular audi cars suck. simple. these VW badge engineered cars are a bad marketing effort all around.

Your comment can be seen in two ways, either you want to stir up some contreversy and you enjoy reading flame wars, or you are just completely ignorant.
So i am going to try to give you some perspective, it is obvious that you appreciate BMW products, and this is great. Now you know that BMW owns R.R. You also know that R.R existed before BMW. So would it be fair to present the new R.R as BMW badge engineered vehicles, or are they still pure Rolls?
this is to remind you that Audi existed well before VW and that at that time, and since then, most manufacturer have had FWD vehicles. Actually engineering wise a front wheel drive vehicle is more complex than a rear wheel drive. Would that make a BMW or a M-B a lesser of a car?
So you have to realize that what works for the US does not represent the entire world. Also let me remind you that even in the US, what was at the time a great example of luxury cars, Cadillac, was using front wheel drive.

amazinBimmer, the far better and more successful M division has its success cut out for it as it has faultered with the new BMW M3 and the whole world knows it. Sorry BMW needs a $30K more expensive, stripped down with no A/C, no radio, no heated seats, no moonroof car to take down the Audi RS4.

The Audi S5 has posted 0-60 times of 4.5 seconds as its fastest time to 60. The new BMW M3 has posted 4.4 seconds as its fastest time to 60 mph. Gee, I think YOU know what this means for BMW when Audi adds an additional 100-120 horsepower to the S5 and creates the RS5.

A dynamic and straight-line monster that will surely have the same result against the BMW M3 as the RS4 has had....that would be defeating the BMW M3 yet AGAIN.

The benchmark can no longer be the benchmark if it has been defeated on more than one occasion by multiple Volkswagen competitors.

This new BMW M3 is a poorly engineered car that goes backwards from the charactersitics and ideals that made the E46 M3 such a masterpiece. It is a very bad marketing effort for BMW if they need to boast about a $30K more expensive, stripped down version of the new M3 that comes with no A/C, no radio, no moonroof and no heated seats with a roughly $100K price tag to achieve the same precision in terms of handling as the $50K previous version of the M3 known as the E46 variant.

BMW I wouldn't market the M3 CSL as the raw M3 when you previously achieved incredible raw and driver oriented focus in a car half the price in a previous incarnation of the new M3,

germanut.. you are about to trip over that very low IQ you have.. VW has made an effort but by no means is it remotely successful with purists..the M3 is king, and will remain so. Only people who envy it are the S4 owners who cant afford it and the RS4 owners that paid way too much (even in limited numbers) for theri overwrought VW jetta. How many cars have you sold this month, you lowly sales guy?? Did you finally receive your GED? in the mail?

amazinBimmer, very funny....attacking someone based on what you perceive to be their highest level of attained education.

Well if RS4 owners paid way too much for their RS4 that can only mean one LOGICAL conclusion. If they paid more for their RS4 they could obviously afford the BMW M3.

That conclusion thereby refutes your arguement that Audi owners can't afford their respective BMW counterparts.

Again, I found you contradicting yourself.

Obviously, BMW has not succeeded with the new BMW M3 if the Audi RS4 which lost to the E46 M3 on more than one occasion has defeated the new BMW M3 twice.

You can try to convince yourself, amazinBimmer, that BMW has not lost its edge based on Ring times etc.. with this new M3.

Every single media publication and comparison test has come to one conclusion...and that is the new BMW M3 with its V8 powerplant is not as raw, as involving or as pure as the E46 version.

If you want to start talking prices and how Audi is cheaper well the RS4 puts down your arguement against the BMW M3, the Rs6 will do the same against the M5, and Audi as a whole for their regular lineup of cars will steadily increase prices over the next 5 years to be even if not more than their BMW counterparts. (I'm sure you came across that article here on Autospies)

If you want to talk about sales. Audi is forecasting to be #1 by 2015. I think that is a tad too optimistic, but if you look at Audi now, they are closer to Mercedes in sales and might even surpass Mercedes-Benz to become the #2 best selling premium auto manufcaturer in the world either this year or next and Audi is closer to Mercedes-Benz in sales than Infiniti, Lexus, Saab and Volvo are to it.

Looks like someone needs to read up on the recent M3 reviews in order to make a more complete and knowledgeable arguement when arguing against those supposed stupid VW owners that obviously have a higher level of education on average than their BMW counteparts and there is proof to back up this claim.

amazinBimmer your all smoke and mirrors. All talk with no proof to back up your falsified claims. No one will take you seriously until you can provide actual factual evidence directly pointing out your claims.

You prove your lack of automotive historical knowledge yet again. amazinBimmer........Audi was created before Volkswagen was and for that matter BMW also.
