Photo Renderings: 2010 Porsche Cayenne to shrink in size
When the Porsche Cayenne SUV made its debut in 2002 and went on sale in the U.S. in 2003, there were many skeptics that thought the mid-size SUV would never succeed on the stateside. Sales of the Cayenne dipped significantly in 2006, resulting in Porsche to skip the 2007 model year altogether. But the Porsche Cayenne is back for 2008, and the slight facelift and new engine lineup has done wonders for the SUV.

As the long overdue redesign for the Porsche Cayenne arrives, rumors are flying that Porsche is working on baby-version of the Cayenne. And while Porsche’s CEO Wiedking came out and said “there will be no baby Cayenne,” the statement isn’t entirely true. According to these latest photo renderings, it seems Porsche engineers will be shrinking the size of the next-generation Cayenne. Porsche seems to want to venture more into the booming ‘Crossover’ market, offering a more performance vehicle.

good move on Porsche's end,, no reason to build a true off-roader

I know several people who bought one,and they were in the shop all the time. One guy races vintage porsche's and loves everything about them.He traded it in and lost almost 20 grand. He'll never make that mistake again.

Porsche had problems when the Cayenne first came out. They admittedly had a learning curve which took a couple of yrs. The later series 1 cars are much more reliable and the series 2 cars are supposed to more so.

When you burn people for two years, until you get your learning curve done, its two late they never buy again. The german MFG's always use Americans as guinea pigs.

I agree. although I do believe Americans cried a lot when Germans brought models stateside after a couple of years in Europe. We wanted first runs. Now we have first runs, and we cry for different reasons. Hey, not making excuses for German car manufacturers ....just saying...... :)

so the cayenne will be based on an x3 competitor....hmmm im assuming a huge price drop isnt in the works, yet it will be based on a much lower end vehicle. Im confused as to why porsche doesnt use one of its own platforms for this suv, namely the upcoming sedan, which isnt an off road vehicle, it sounds like they are trying to cut costs, and making the cayenne an X3, ex35, glk class competitor seems rediculous but given the VW groups share everything mentality i guess this makes sense......thats so old gm
