R&T: Lexus LS 600h L & Gulfstream G550
R&T on LS600hL:

"What's remarkable is the detail refinement and how seamlessly it all works together... The 2.5-ton sedan responds more nimbly than something with 121.7inches between its axles really should...Efficient, comfortable and safe, the G550 is the Lexus of Large business jets..."

Yeah, and the Rolls or Maybach are priced the same as the LS600h aren't they?

Ease off. Not every positive comment regarding Lexus is "fanboy talk".

lol...i think we can all say that the jet has nothing to do with the car. However, i think they are comparing that ottoman to the jet seat, so i guess its the ambiance, or the atmostphere that more machines give to their passengers.

I don't understand why this article was comparing a jet vs. a car, even if they both are flagships and luxurious. This article was in a Road&Track magazine and I wondered the same thing. Will people really say, "Well, I like this car, but the jet is cooler". No. That's where I get confused.

I'd still take an A8L W12 over the Lexus LS600 any day. The Audi drives like a car half it's size and still beats the LS600 to 60 by half a second. Of course, some of the fun of a W12 is having a driver chauffer me around so I can sit back and listen to my iPod with 1100 watts of power through 14 speakers courtesy of Bang & Olufsen. If the mood strikes, I could also sit back in my reclining rear bucket seat and watch a movie while sipping a cold drink out of the rear seat fridge.

If I decide to drive myself on a long distance jaunt, I can turn on the air-conditioned and massaging driver's seat and enjoy the purr of one of the finest 12 cylinder engines in the world. No wonder Bentley uses this same engine only with turbos to help motivate the extra 800 pounds of the Flying Spur to the exact same performance level as this much lighter aluminium constructed Audi. I could blast through mountain passes at speeds even a 911 owner could respect and still arrive totally refreshed. I would also be comforted to know that only 150 lucky souls get to choose an A8L W12 making it one of the most exclusive cars in the US. I hate seeing myself on every street corner.

lol you do realize that the things youve written that you claim you could do in an Audi can be done in almsot every other luxury car flagship.

p.s. i believe many journalist say that the 19 speakers in the Mark Levinson system is the best car audio you can find.

Why were you so de-boosted? That's practically poetic.

I think I'm going to end up with an S8, myself. Total change, yes, but I can't wait.

This car is amazing. And why is it that every single positive post about Lexus is deemed as "fanboy talk" as a few other people pointed out? Get over yourselves. If every positive Lexus comment is "fanboy talk," then every negative Lexus comment is pure spite and ignorance.

Pretty much every single review of all LS models has noted that the luxury is on par with many more upscale luxury means of transportation. Bentley, Rolls Royce, Maybach...Hell, it just got compared to a damn Gulfstream jet. Now if that's not showing that the LS is pure luxury then my name isn't William. No, the Lexus is not in the same price/status range as most of those, which is what makes the comparisons remarkable.

No, it's just the people who are touting it as the best car in the world. For them, maybe. For me, it's probably an Audi S8, or even a Bentley. It depends on the person more than the vehicle.

I still wouldn't have the hybrid, I'd have one of the diesel options if I was concerned about fuel economy.

LS600hL = no comprise (or best comprise) for

Luxury, Comfort, safety...
Performance including handling, e.g. 50-70mph 0.5s faster than Audi W12, BMW 760Li but just 0.2s slower than Mercedes S600 TT - WindingRoad

FE, gas for one S600 can power two LS600hLs

Emission, SULEV
...
A long list of the world's firsts

I think the S class is the best car for luxury, comfort and safety.
I don't have 50-70 times for an A8 4.2 tdi but I think it might be quicker than the 600h.

But it does have low emissions, and the quietness thing is a bonus.
However I don't believe that the 600h is worth the extra money, regular S classes, A8s and LSs are just as luxurious and comfortable and safe, performance is bettered by the German rivals (due to different gear ratios, an LS600h does 0-62 in 6.3 seconds in Europe) and mpg is bettered by the S420cdi and A8 4.2 tdi.
It's a good car, but not for me. When I'm paying over 160000 dollars (for that is how much it shall cost in Britain) for a car, mpg is not going to be my highest priority anyway, unless I was being chauffeured, in which case I wouldn't need the performance.
So if I wanted a chauffeur driven car, an S320cdi or 730d or A8 3.0tdi (why spend more when I can spend less ad remove the badges?), a car for me, an S550/600/63 AMG, A8/S8 or LS460.

guys, know the fact that rupuert lives in england. they have no restrctions to diesels along wih the rest of europe. to them, its not new to have such pure luxury and fuel-efficiency combined. in the states where harsh restrictions are put into place, the LS hybrid brings a lot of interest to the whole public in the US.

The LS is an excellent car. But it is more of a car to be driven in. The interior is beautiful though.

I know a real estate agent that was a Navy pilot during the 50's and 60's and latter became a commercial pilot and now is a real estate agent full time and he drives a 07 Bentley GT, 06 Dodge Viper and a 06 BMW 6'er and I ask you where is the Lexus, I can't seem to find one in his driveway!!!

BTW, he flew a Japanese Mitsubishi Zero in the movie Tora Tora Tora.

Oh wow now we have the Lexus cult going at it with them comparing the Lexus "luxury" to be the same as that of a executive private jet.

So they have RR, Bentley, and Maybach to compare to as well right? wow Lexus is the most uber duber car in the world.

It's too bad Maybach already has a business jet on wheels already and the owners of private jets who probably own Mercedes, Audi, and BMW's won't be shown comparing these two types of machines.

I wonder who's paying who to boost up some image.

The LS600hL is beautiful, and if I wanted a car to ferry clients in, it would be at the top of my list. But (as of right now), I'd prefer a car that I can enjoy driving, not just being driven in.

The point of this article?
Read it first...It starts like
"When the word "flagship" was coined, I?d bet its originator had neither $104,000 luxury sedans nor $46.7 million business jets in mind, but here are two shining and incredibly diverse examples that can claim the honor."

Lexus ALWAYS understates their 0 - 60 times by at least .5 seconds. Here are the results of the 5 Top Luxury Cars in this test which was reported in the January Issue of Car and Driver. Please note these tests were all done on the same day at about the same time and at the same altitude. The results reflect the average of 3 runs and all cars are the 2007 vintage.

Mercedes S550 5.6, 0 - 60 quarter mile in 14.1 (Benz show 5.4 in their specs)
BMW 750iL 5.7, 0 - 60 quarter mile in 14.2
Jag XJ Super 6.0 0 - 60 quarter mile 14.5
Lexus LS460L 6.2 0 - 60 quarter mile 14.6
Audi A8 6.8 0 - 60 quarter mile 15.2

Note that Lexus, as usual, is more than the 5.4 the manufacturer CLAIMS to get by .8 seconds.

Also note the LS430 (prior model the LS460 replaced) was rated at 295 HP and was actually 278 when Lexus corrected their rating. And there were no refunds or apologies from the so-called "quality" car company. ABC - Always Be Careful what you buy from the (REPREHENSIBLE) Toyota/Lexus people.....
