Sometimes when we receive or spot a recall notice it's for something silly. Frankly, those announcements aren't as big of a deal as say what we're about to tell you about.

Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA) has two significant recalls out for nearly 2 million vehicles as of this weekend. Very serious in nature, these two recalls deal with unexpected air bag deployment.

Obviously, this could be extremely problematic.

According to the first recall, some vehicles' side-curtain air bag and seatbelt pre-tensioner may have been equipped with sensors that are too sensitive. If a door is slammed too hard, the air bag and seatbelt pre-tensioner may deploy.

The second recall deals with a wiring harness that may rub to the extent it may cause an electrical short thereby deploying the driver's air bag unexpectedly.

With nearly 2 million vehicles affected, this is a BIG deal. If you own a RAM pick-up truck, please be sure to scope out the details and see if your vehicle falls into one of the recalls. Take action, immediately.

FCA's press release follows:

Statement: Occupant Restraint Control Module

July 25, 2015 , Auburn Hills, Mich. - FCA US LLC is conducting a voluntary safety recall to recalibrate control modules on approximately 667,406 U.S.-market trucks to prevent inadvertent side-curtain air-bag and seatbelt pre-tensioner deployment.

Modules in certain pickups may have calibrations with a low deployment threshold. The Company is aware of two potentially related injuries, both described as minor, but no accidents.

FCA US launched an investigation following customer complaints of advertent deployments, accounting for less than 0.005 percent of the population, almost all of which occurred when vehicle doors were slammed with excessive force. Further, engineers discovered the low deployment threshold is in four-door vehicles.

Affected are model-year 2013-2015 Ram 1500, 2500 and 2500 pickups. Additional vehicles numbering approximately 153,011 in Canada; 8,272 in Mexico and 14,847 outside the NAFTA region, also are included in campaign.

Affected customers will be advised when they may schedule service, which will be performed free of charge. In the interim, FCA US advises that owners of these vehicles exercise caution when closing doors.

NHTSA's press release follows:

RECALL Subject : Inadvertent Driver Air Bag Deployment

Report Receipt Date: JUL 22, 2015
NHTSA Campaign Number: 15V459000
Component(s): AIR BAGS
Potential Number of Units Affected: 1,060,531
Manufacturer: Chrysler (FCA US LLC)

SUMMARY:
Chrysler (FCA US LLC) is recalling certain model year 2012-2014 Ram 1500, 2500, 3500, 4500, and 5500 trucks manufactured January 18, 2011, to October 7, 2014, and equipped with the Electronic Vehicle Information Center option. The affected vehicles have a steering wheel wiring harness that may rub against the driver air bag module retainer spring.

CONSEQUENCE:
This abrasion may result in an electrical short that could cause driver's frontal air bag to unexpectedly deploy. Inadvertent deployment of the air bag may increase the risk of injury and the possibility of a vehicle crash.

REMEDY:
Chrysler will notify owners, and dealers will inspect, repair as necessary, and secure the steering wheel wiring harness. Additionally, protective caps will be added to the air bag retainer spring ends. These repairs will be done free of charge. The recall is expected to begin September 19, 2015. Owners may contact Chrysler customer service at 1-800-853-1403. Chrysler's number for this recall is R36.
