Last week BMW released the FULL details of the all-new 4-Series Gran Coupe. Following the lead of its older brother, the 6-Series Gran Coupe, the 4'er seems to take a slightly different direction.

That's because if you look at the 6 GC it's readily apparent that it's not making any excuses for lacking some headroom and keeping a relatively svelte shape. When you get inside, it feels like a coupe.

Now that's where it seems the all-new 4 GC will differ. That's because it looks like the research and development team intended on making headroom a priority in a vehicle that's supposed to be svelte. Instead of a sleek "coupe" we get a bulbous greenhouse.

And that's a problem.

It's an even bigger problem when its greenhouse looks far too close to the 3-Series Gran Turismo, which has been highly controversial. If this wasn't already confusing enough, BMW also equipped the 4 GC with a liftback in the same style as the 3 GT. What gives, already?

If you do the calculus not a whole lot makes sense. I don't BMW's trying to be formulaic anymore. it's a land grab out there for market share. That said, when a talented Photoshopper drew up an M4 Gran Coupe I sort of chuckled and said to myself "Well, at least the 4 GC would be good for something!"

Is this a completely ridiculous idea or a certainty given BMW has provided buyers with an M6 Gran Coupe? Would an M4 Gran Coupe be the variant's saving grace?
