REVIEW: Audi S3
"The hot Audis of today can be divided into two camps: those that are developed by Quattro GmbH and those that aren't. The "RS" models, such as the new RS4, are engineered by Quattro, Audi's enthusiast-led in-house skunkworks operation set up to rival BMW's M-Power and Mercedes' AMG. The "S" models, such as the S4 and the 2007 Audi S3, are developed alongside the rest of the mainstream range. They are, by definition, less extreme than the RS cars and are, in theory at least, easier to live with." Read Article

Well, it kind of makes the 3.2 obsolete. The 3.2 has always been a horrible value ($33K base vs. $25K for 2.0T), while the 2.0T is actually quicker through the quarter mile, and only 0.3 seconds slower to 60. And it just feels a lot more fun. I drove both before I bought the 2.0T for my winter car. The 3.2 just is nowhere near as tossable- it weighs about 300lbs more.

The S3 won't be a lot more than the 3.2 in the US- easily under $40K, but I know it won't come here. The S3 is pretty sweet, though. The 2.0T's fabulous engine, but with 3.2-beating power. I don't see any reason to buy a 3.2 over it, unless you REALLY need the extra doors.

The RS4 is not meant to compete with the 3 series, C Class or IS. If nothing else, with the engine putting out over 400HP, you've got a 100HP jump over those other cars.

another useless audi (as they point out). actually you can generalize this will all of the other S line cars.. uprated but essentailly not much better than their mainstream counterparts. the RS line is interesting, but nowhere as successful commercially or brandwise as m and AMG (they are essentailly limited production cars sold as "halo cars"). stay with M and AMG and youll always do better. some idiot on this site will now proceed to school me on audi interiors, and the list price of a A8L W12.. here goes....

Again, you are an idiot.

RS cars are exclusive for a reason. I hold them in much higher regard than M or AMG because of this- people who drive RS really know how to drive, while most M and AMG owners are posers. Especially AMG owner and M3 owners.

Stay with M or AMG and you'll do better? What in the hell does that mean? RS cars are faster than both! And better in the corners to boot!

Useless? Far from it. There's no M 1 Series on the horizon, so of course you'd say it's useless, because it's faster than any 1 Series currently on sale.

You've never experienced an S car if you think they're similar to the A counterparts. The S6 may not be as intense as the M5, but it's a LOT faster than the A6 4.2, and my car is infinitely better than any normal A4 Cabriolet. S8 vs. A8 is more of personal taste, because the A8 is more than fast enough. The S8 is for the person who has everything but the S8.

AMG has lost all it's flavor

I think I saw an AMG Yugo

This car is not a USA car and never will be. This is also the only bad article I have found on this car.

You obviously have not driven any S-Line cars. As a former Audi owner, I was able to experience an S4 and let me tell you, that car is right up there with the best: M and AMG.

So before posting fairy tales, drive the damn thing first.

Willis, so.. Ive driven the s4, s6 and it only goes to show that if you think that a s4 is up there with an m3 or a s6 is up there with a m5, you are the one who beleives in fairy tales. THESE ARE VWs pEOPLE!!. the s6 is so sluggish compared to an m5, i bet you a 550i sport will humble it. everyday

Your comments prove that you are a Liar and a Fool

S-Line vehicles are different to S or RS vehicles

S-Line (Different Bodykits and Suspension)
S (Power Hike, Brake & Suspension Upgrades)
RS (No Holds, Throw out The Rule Book Upgrades)

FYI: RS series has always Smashed its M and AMG Counterparts from the RS4s Inception around 1995/96

I don't think the S6 is up there with the M5, simply because it's not meant to compete with it. But in the only comparison involving the new E63, M5 and S6, the M5 came in last. That gives a pretty clear message, that even S cars can make miracles. Of course, the E63 won, because it's the best overall. The M5's transmission is simply crap.

AmazingBimmer- you're totally biased, and bashing on me for owning an Audi? Let me make something clear.

Do you think I go to work in the morning, thinking (when I see an M3, for example), "Oh no, my car is cheaper than his! He must think I drive a re-badged VW!" Do you think I feel insecure about my choice? Do you think I give two shits whether or not you like my car? Let me clue you in: I DON'T. As long as I'm satisfied with my car in the end, nothing else really matters, does it? And I most definitely am.

I wouldn't bash on your car. The M5 is a very cool sedan. So, I ask, why must you rag on mine? I enjoy it, and though your insults don't make a lot of impact on me, it makes you look like a fool.

TOO BAD THAT THE AUDI S4 HAS BEATEN THE M3 IN MANY COMPARISONS. THE RS4, THERE HAVEN'T BEEN ANY COMPARISONS, BECAUSE TEH RESULTS ARE ALREADY KNOWN TO ALL.

No, the S4 came out only two years after the current M3. And does any of that really matter? If one car is better, it's just better. And actually, I don't think the S4 is as fun as the M3- but it's much, much nicer and easier to live with, and fun all its own.

That's like saying the new M3 vs. RS4 is a stupid comparison because the RS4 is older. They're all competitors, hello! None of these are stupid comparisons!
