This may be the best news I've heard in quite some time. As automakers are on the never-ending quest to produce the fastest lap times to best its competition, we've seen the decline of the pure driving experience.

You know: skinnier wheel/tire combinations, softer suspensions, less downforce-creating wings and aerodynamic tricks, and a proper gearbox — a manual transmission.

It seems that the ridiculous demand for the Porsche Cayman GT4 has given the Stuttgart-based brand confidence in producing a vehicle that's back-to-basics. For me, this is fantastic news to hear. Personally, I love simple cars like the Boxster Spyder and Cayman R. They were magnificent. While I understand the way those vehicles are architected will not set the most cutting-edge lap times, they are a blast to drive and will ALWAYS put a smile on your face.

Imagine a 911 GT that's focused on being a lightweight, simple vehicle that brings back the old way of doing things. To me, it sounds like a dream come true.

And possibly a nightmare for the likes of Singer Vehicle Design. Those are the guys that take the likes of old-school 911s and tricks them out for modern motoring. I guess you'd call their vehicle retromods with the most excruciating amount of detail poured into them. If I had all the money in the world, I'd have one.
