For the past handful of years it's been quite astonishing to see how far Porsche has developed its junior sports cars, the Boxster and Cayman.

When the first-gen Boxster first debuted, it was an all-out sports car that was intended to be back-to-basics. While that remained true for quite some time, the legendary German automaker could not resist upping the power and creating special editions. Now that the current model is up for a refresh, we've been hearing interesting things.

For the past 12 months we've seen and heard the four-cylinder motors undergoing research and development, and the latest word on the street is suggesting the four bangers will come in three flavors. Ranging from 240-horsepower via a 2.0-liter flat four to 370 horsepower from a 2.5-liter flat four, it sounds like things are about to get very interesting for Porsche's junior sports cars.
