Recall Monday: Ford Recalls 180,000 SUVs, & Vans
Ford Motor Co. said today it was recalling more than 180,000 sport utility vehicles and vans in two separate recalls to fix interior door handles and faulty fuel hoses.

The larger of the two recalls involves nearly 124,000 Ford Expedition and Lincoln Navigator SUVs from the 2007-08 model years. The Dearborn-based automaker said the spring system in the inside door handles could break.

The problem could prevent the door handles from returning to a closed position, but the latches work properly, said Ford spokesman Wes Sherwood. However, in a side crash, there could be a risk of the door latch opening because of the problems, he said.

Ignorance at it's best. Just a few of the recalls from last year. Recalls are not limited to American made autos.

I have owned two Japanese, two German and four American made vehicles. Each country of origin has had one recall across all vehicles and the Japanese cars have spent more time in the shop than the others combined for non-scheduled repairs.

I don't know how long you owned your vehicles, but, for me, I typically own a vehicle for 7 years. Here is my list:

- '91 Acura: 0 problem, 0 recall (not even a light bulb went out)
- '95 Mercury: 1 problem, 0 recall (loosen sliding door handle)
- '98 BMW: 10+ problems, 0 recall (10+ because I lost count after 10, sorry)
- '01 Honda: 0 problem, 0 recall (sometimes the sliding door acted up, but it can be fixed easily by adding lubricant)
- '05 Toyota: 0 problem, 2 recalls (so far)
- '08 Mazda: 0 problem, 0 recall (so far)

See the trend here?
In my case, the problems with my German car exceeds the total problems of all Japanese cars I have owned by a far far margin.

One more reason they should bring their smaller European vehicles over here.
