Rolls-Royce launches first pre-owned car program - still expensive
If you always wanted to drive around in a Rolls-Royce Phantom while every one looked at you with envy but didn’t want to spend a lot of money, Rolls-Royce is now offering an easier solution. The company has just launched it first approved program for pre-owned cars.
Known as the Rolls-Royce Provenance, the program ensures that each car meets the criteria set by Rolls-Royce to gain the Provenance seal of approval. Factory-trained technicians conduct a painstaking inspection procedure, including a full road test, to ensure that every Provenance car reaches the highest standards prior to delivery.
While all that may sound dandy, you’re still going to be cashing out a fair amount of money. According to AutoCar, Rolls-Royce’s London dealership has two Provenance cars for sale with the cheapest being a four-year-old Phantom with 21,000 miles. That will cost you...

Why no mention of the Bentley, Maybach and Lexus LS? They're better alternatives.

Drop Lexus out of that sentence, and everything is good. You always seem to get deboosted past -8 lately, I wonder why.

They probably didn't get mentioned because this a new program for RR, not Bentley or Maybach. Though if you want a huge savings get a used Maybach, they drop in value like rocks in a lake. Benz was putting $50k rebates on new ones to move them last year. RR is and always will be the benchmark for over the top class and prestige. And seriously, I know I should just ignore that you said it, but the Lexus LS? Just stop it, idiotic statements like that make real fans who know what they're talking about look bad because you get lumped in with them. No one on this planet who wants and can afford a RR, Maybach, or Bentley is going to consider the LS or any other car in the LS class. No one. Ever. Ever ever ever.

Well..I am going to have to disagree with you on that generalization. I know a billionaire with an LS. Of course he does have much nicer cars than that, but it at least last I saw him, it was his daily driver. Now there is some other stuff going on: this is Denver. People here aren't really osentatious for the most part I really think he has (or at least had) it to fit in better.

I didn't say a rich person wouldn't own an LS, it's kind of a prerequisite to have money to buy a $100k car. I said a rich person isn't going to go "RR or LS, RR or LS... hmmm, I just can't decide." Someone who wants a RR, Bentley, or Maybach is going to get a RR, Bentley, or Maybach. Maybe they'll get the LS, 7-Series, S-class, or A8 in addition, because let's face it if you can afford a $350k car you're filthy rich anc can afford however many of whatever you want, but they're not getting one of those over the Rolls.

Rob,
Well, the "nevers" in there sort of get rid of the insinuation of comparison. But I understand, and will say that I know of nobody that has bought an LS or the like OVER a Rolls-Royce- It doesn't really happen. I won't say never but I would say you would have to be off our rocker to do so.

I can't afford a Phantom, however I can afford an LS. I guess to make myself feel important, I'll just say I'm buying the Lexus over the Rolls Royce...

The LS is a nice car, RR/Maybach/Bentley are automotive statements. I doubt you'd find a 4 yr old LS with 24K mls as the article said...
LS is a daily driver, similar to the Avalon or the CTS. I would never put it in the same sentence with the big guys.

A used 2003 RR in London is in a totally different price bracket than the same used RR in the U.S. It would be more like £120,000 over here.

I noticed but didn't mention that it is rather funny the car listed in the article- 21,000 and £179,950 ($386,213) is actually more expensive than a NEW Rolls Royce as seen in dealerships in the United States.
Usually, with appropriate standard options they run about $357,000-$367,000 in the US.
"Provenance"...how funny- like it is a painting or other work of art.

Slapping a Rolls with a "Provenance" seal sounds about as funny as putting an "F" on the boot of a car and calling it fast.

if u have said this before the release of LS460/600h i would hvae believed u.
but now after more than 2-3 magazines say that new LS460/600h is on par with RR and Maybach in luxury department, i doubt your claim.
btw I am sure atleast one in the planet will buy new LS over RR or Maybach.
HAHAHAHA

Maybach and RR cater to people who seek ultimate luxury and distinction in their cars regardless of cost. The marketing guys take advantage of this and put a ridiculously high price on the product knowing that many of their customers believe that the more you pay the more you get. Anyone who wants distinction and comfort but does not want to get ripped off should seriously consider a car like the Maseratti Quattroporte, the Audi A8L or the Mercedes S-Class. Some nouveau riche types buy a RR in an attempt to fit in with old money.
As for style, I prefer the current Bentley Arnage RL over the current Phantom. Although the current Phantom has lots of character, I think RR styling has gone downhill since the fifties when they had the taller grille and single headlights. RR front seat cushions were short until the late nineties (1997 I think) when they boasted that they added one full inch to the length of the seat cushion.

Until Autospies came along, I didn't realize that so many Lexus fans were so snobby, arrogant, pretentious and basically out of touch with reality. I'm not talking about all of them, but the few that think that if they have a "L" on the bonnet, that they have something that is as prestigious as a car with the Flying Lady or the winged "B"...
thanks for keeping us entertained
