S-Class Convertible
"A convertible version of Mercedes-Benz’s S-class luxury sedan might be on its way to production. Expected to debut as a concept vehicle at the Detroit show in January, the cabrio will eschew a retractable hardtop in place of a traditional clothtop. If it makes it into production, the S-class cabrio is likely a year away from showrooms." Read Article

thing about convertibles is that you don't need a cup, while dipping a skoal or Kodiak.

#1 dumb idea, #2 a coupe that size people will turn their heads to the new CL, and #3 why would anyone want a luxury sedan with the roof chopped off?

It's not that dumb.

I can see a market for this car, those who love luxury sedans but want to cruise roof down with their friends in summer.

Maybe I'm wrong? Does that market even exist?

I still think it's a cool concept, regardless.

MB is going to try and capitalize on the very fact that you brought up. That company in Cali, AMC maybe, did a Chrysler 300C cabrio and although it hasn't made it to main stream lines yet there are always talks about making it. AMC was just an aftermarket company that was trying to show potential of what could happen.

We see so many big luxury cars (minus S's and 7's and A8's) with the fake cloth top, this time it will be functional.

Even if they make it an option in small numbers there are loads of people in 365 day warm weather that would buy one in a heartbeat.

Stability would only be my concern.

ha ha ha, cruise roof down with their friends in summer..yeah in theory it is a happy trail w/green grass and birds singing around you..with small puff of clouds and gentle warm breeze everywhere..

The reality - Dark figure slowly approaches your ass w/a 357 Revolver pointing at your forehead ordering to get off my new S-Class now biatch.

Would you drive an S-class around w/top down? Seriously? I wouldn't...not even during daylight LOL.
This must be a joke right? At least its not for U.S. market LOL.

Very Very bad idea, that is 100% not going to happen..However, doesnt it make more sense to make a CL convertible???

If they sell ten of these worldwide they'll be lucky. Dumb Merc is at it again.

The rumor is probably more so about a new cl convertible. I personally wouldn't want a car that big as a convertible. But I do love luxo rag tops. I have a benz and a new jag convertible. I just love the rag tops...not such a fan of hardtop convertibles though.

True but wouldn't people who want luxury and have their top down go for a MB CLK, SL, BMW 3-series/6-series, Bentley Continental Convertible, The new RR convertible, Aston Martin's, and etc.

Car will never be real... a CL convertiable sounds nice though, since the CL is essential an S-class coupe

Actually its not a bad idea, I can see other companies doing the same if MB goes a head with this.

I saw a Cadillac DeVille convertible once... very old-people-ish. Mercedes is already staid- they shouldn't have to lumber a geizer image around.

--------------

Therefore an S-class "COUPE" will fill no gap in any market because MB's own CL has that covered.

It's bad enough the new s-class looks horrible but a convertible, you have to be joking.Watch out QE2 your sister boat is about to launch and it will surely look terrible cruising down the road, just think that huge chunk of metal with ford F-150 wheel wells that buldge out the side
