Since the launch of the all-new Mercedes-Benz E-Class sedan at the 2016 Detroit Auto Show (NAIAS) we've seen one other all-new E aside from the coupe variant. That would be the big and bad Mercedes-AMG E63.

Expectations are running high for the über sport sedan. That's because the enthusiast communities are hoping for all-wheel drive and 600+ horsepower. Given the output of cars like the BMW M5 and Cadillac CTS-V, Mercedes has to come out swinging.

And, frankly, the company doesn't know any other way.

In the past it's launched AMG variants with substantially more power than the German competition. AMG doesn't believe in "killing them with kindness," more so it believes in "killing them with horsepower."

The latest spy shots showing the E63 undergoing winter testing depict a vehicle covered in camouflage head-to-toe, but there are some distinguishing characteristics, such as the large wheel/tire package, the large air intakes in the front clip, and the quad-tipped exhaust.
