While I think my previous posts about the all-new Alfa Romeo Stelvio make it clear that the compact sport-utlity vehicle market is heating up, I think it bears repeating. Thats because everyone is trying to figure out how to capture some bucks from this growing niche.

Audi isn't alone as its all-new Q2 is expected to continue the brand's small SUV success in European markets.

But, in typical Audi fashion, a standard Q2 can't be the only offering. And that's where the SQ2 comes into play.

Spotted for the first time working its way around Germany's world famous Nürburgring testing facility, these are the very first spy photos that I know of depicting the blue beast.

Clearly painted a special shade, equipped with a larger wheel and tire package, adorned with black trim, and fitted with a quad-tipped exhaust and rear diffuser element, this SQ2 is bringing the heat. As of now the rumormill seems to indicate that about 300 horsepower on tap from a forced induction four-cylinder motor is in store.

This makes sense given that this is what's in the S3 and the Volskwagen Golf R. Have to stay competitive!

Check out the FULL collection of spy shots, below!

The regular Q2 doesn’t go on sale until November this year, but today’s pictures confirm Audi is already far into development of a hotter version, which is expected to feature the same turbocharged 2.0-litre four-cylinder engine as the S3. In that hot hatch, it produces 306bhp, but insiders expect the crossover’s peak output to hover around the 295bhp mark.
