I remember when I first drove the then all-new BMW X1. I approached it at first and thought it, like the then 1-Series, looked a little goofy from the front. But it wasn't until I got to its door that I realized how compact it really was.
It didn't seem much bigger than a five-door Volkswagen Golf.
To me it seemed "X enough" if that's a even a thing, but it turns out that BMW's in-house design team may have been thinking otherwise when the original X1 was conceived. In an exclusive interview with BMW's design boss, Karim Habib, Auto Express is reporting some all-new details about the second-gen X1.
Essentially, the gist is the next-gen X1 is going to get a bit more mature from a design perspective and possibly in size. In addition, it will become sportier and as Auto Express reports "funkier."
I wonder just how funky it will be. Lexus NX funky? Infiniti QX30 Concept funky?

BMW design boss Karim Habib has confirmed the next BMW X1 will be sportier and funkier than the outgoing model, but will remain a practical car.
...
“We’ve realised that platform allows us proportions that – for small X cars – can give you more ‘X-like’ proportions than the current X1. And in that sense I think it looks sportier because it looks more like an X car”, he said.
