When BMW originally said that a car like the 2011 1M would be a car built every 10 or so years, I was a bit disappointed. That's because it was SO damn good. It does everything well.

In fact, if the all-new M4 wasn't so much more powerful, I think it would be tough to compare the two.

Turns out there won't be a long wait for the 1M follow up though. That's because it will live on as the M2. That's great news because to be straightforward I was disappointed in the M235i that most reviewers seem to be in love with.

To me it just feels like what the old E46 felt like, just with more power and a numb steering rack. That's not M badge worthy, and I don't care how BMW's marketing department wants to split hairs with this M Performance brand nonsense.

Now, the M2. A new development car is pictured here for the first time. Painted black, sporting an M235i's body kit with modified fender flares front and back, it is looking especially muscular. Make sure you see the image of this car that is looking at it dead center. The fenders are MASSIVE a la the 1M, which I said reminded me of a DTM racer.

Around the back of the car the exhaust is only dual tipped on this prototype, but if you check out the brakes you'll note they look familiar to the current-gen M3 and M4s standard set up. Lastly, check out the M2's lowered stance. Pretty aggressive, no?
