In recent months we have seen a couple sets of images depicting the next-gen BMW 5-Series undergoing research and developmental testing. While the current-gen product improved upon the E60 product, there's no question that there's a little something missing from the equation.

Hopefully the all-new 5'er can rectify that.

What we do know is that with the all-new Mercedes-Benz E-Class on its way to dealers this summer, BMW has got to start working fast. Not only is the three-pointed star on a roll, the next-gen E is sure to debut some really trick technology that will capture buyer's attention. And then there's the AMG variant, the E63, that's expected to debut with approximately 600 horsepower before the end of 2016.

Set to challenge that vehicle head-to-head is the all-new BMW M5. Always considered the driver's choice among high-performance sport sedans, the field is more competitive than ever. BMW has to bring the goods.

Captured in what I believe are the first spy shots of the next-gen M5, the all-new M car is seen undergoing winter testing. You have to love the sticker on the back that says "Government approved high speed testing." Pretty cool.

Elsewhere you'll note it's an M5 by its beefy wheel and tire package, HUGE big brake kit and quad-tipped exhaust. Other details are a bit hard to see at the moment — thank you, camouflage.

That said, scope out the FULL collection of spy shots by clicking "Read Article" below!
