After MINI introduced its classic Cooper model and gave it a once over, the company must have been scratching its head. While the introduction went quite well and there was plenty of buyer demand, things cooled off rather quick.

You have to keep in mind that there are only so many people who want a small vehicle in the States, where everything is super-sized. So, what was the company to do? Duh. Introduce a sport-utility vehicle.

That's where the Countryman came into the picture.

Probably one of the smartest things the BMW company did, the Countryman allowed Cooper owners to upgrade and it also opened the door to an all-new market — young families. It didn't take too long for someone to do the calculus and surmise that some buyers may want a hotter version. Enter the John Cooper Works (JCW) variant.

While we're awaiting the all-new generation Countryman to debut, it appears that MINI is not wasting time getting development of the next-gen Countryman JCW under way. Spotted testing for the first time around Germany's Nürburgring, the well camouflaged, super-sized MINI was nabbed. It's clear via its matrix front grille that this is not the ordinary version. In addition to that, the blatantly obvious JCW wheels make it clear what this development vehicle is about.
