This clip is likely to go down in history and it has all the tell-tale signs of a mythical beast. That's because it's short, can be interpreted in a multitude of ways and, of course, is at the center of a controversy. This week rumors spread that the next-gen BMW M3 and M4 could very well NOT come with a manual option.

If true this isn't much a surprise given the way the most high-performance automakers have gone.

If false then it will be a glorious day when that news is announced.

But all-new footage has emerged showing a white M4. As it launches from the light it creeps up into the middle of an intersection to gain some headway. From there you hear the motor rev up in sync with its movement and you hear a one to two shift. Unlike the snappy dual-clutch transmission (DCT) systems in BMW's this is much slower and sounds akin to someone doing it themself in "Efficiency" mode.

Though I have to admit there is a devil on my shoulder saying it's actually a well-sorted DCT 'box that has programmable speeds so that it will shift slower if you so desire.

That said, what say you Spies?

If you were a betting man/woman, would you say this is a standard transmission or a high-tech dual-clutch gearbox?
