With its cult-like following in the suburbs, the Porsche Cayenne is easily considered a smashing success. Hell, now in its second generation, the Cayenne is one of the must have items if you live just outside a major metropolis.

THINK: It’s either a Land Rover Range Rover, a Cadillac Escalade or the Porsche Cayenne.

Sure there’s a lot of Audi Q7s, BMW X5s and Mercedes-Benz GLEs but if you’re looking to make a statement those aren’t the picks.

While the Stuttgart-based team has been cooking up some tasty updates for the second-gen Cayenne, it’s gotten too long in the tooth. We’re eagerly awaiting the third-gen Cayenne. There’s several reasons for this:

1) Porsche’s driving dynamics have improved;

2) The VW-owned manufacturer is expected to go on a much-needed diet that’s rumored to shed around 400 pounds; and,

3) Its exterior styling could get tidier.

In the latest video shot across the pond, it’s clear that Porsche is putting its developmental vehicles through hell to ensure you get the best product possible. Although some are reporting that the third-gen Cayenne is expected to be out next year, I may think it’s even a bit further out than that. These test vehicles do not appear to be equipped with the next-gen vehicle’s exterior, which makes me think that we’ve got some time to go here.

Then again, it is Porsche and as many have observed in the past, there’s zero guarantee the company will radically restyle its very successful Cayenne.
