A more potent Toyota GT-86 is on the way, but electric motor assist could be used instead of turbocharging.

It’s no secret that Toyota is currently working on a high-performance version of its highly acclaimed GT-86/Scion FR-S sports coupe. Only days after the Japanese automaker revealed a nearly production-ready GT-86 convertible concept at the Geneva Motor Show, Autocar is reporting that Toyota is considering a high-performance gasoline-electric hybrid version. In fact, chief engineer Tetsuya Tada says that his team is already working on the car’s mid-life facelift.
