Scooped : 2007 Mitsubishi Lancer EVO X & Subaru Impreza WRX STi
I got my hands on this week's Autocar magazine that features two wonderful photoshops of the upcoming Mitsubishi Lancer EVO X & its Subaru counterpart, the Impreza WRX STi. Here's a summary of what they wrote:
Mitsubishi Lancer EVO X : According to Autocar, we're going to get a first view of the EVO X in the form of a production ready concept, at the Detroit Motor Show in January with the actual production version following in the Tokio Motor Show in October the same year. The most interesting fact though is that Autocar say's that the being a member of the Lancer family, the EVO X will be based on the Dodge Caliber platform !

stellar performance and good lines, but they still haven't lost their boy racer looks
for the price, though, you won't find a better bang for the buck.

Thank goodness Subaru is getting rid of that ugly airplane grill! It must have to do with Toyota buying a part of the company..

i already said that the cars could perform well, that's not the issue. the issue was exterior styling which is only my personal opinion.
i don't call you stupid because you prefer honda civics...i call you stupid b/c you make ridiculous claims like bugatti is make $700K per veyron.
just because you daydream during lunch period at school about owning an EVO someday doesn't mean everyone else has to.

Looks good. boy racer looks.. never liked that term. If it looked like the reg production car everyone would say it looks boring. You have a fast car thats based off a family car you want it to look like it can do what it can do.. only thihng I don't like is the huge wing. Its not because i am to old its because I have drove a couple of cars with them and they make the trunk lid heavy and take up space in the rear view mirror.

The Evo is amazing, looks aside, the performance is unreal for the price. Nothing comes close for the same amount of money.

don't get me wrong, I love aggressive styling...the EVO snout is very attractive, but I guess I agree with austintyson that they huge shopping cart wing on the back takes away from the exterior beauty.
I do not see the need for a wing of that size. Downforce should not be an issue with these cars even though they are lightweight (look at the lotus elise which lacks a rear wing) and a much more subtle rear wing or none at all would make these cars much more attractive IMO.

what are you an engineer now? VW, Honda, Porsche, Ferrari...whatever...they all employ the best and smartest engineers...if any other car company could make the veyron with only $210m (1,400,000price - 700,000 profit x 300 units) of R&D, then why haven't I seen a Honda Veyron on the road yet? Hell, I bet you your precious toyota spent well over that amount developing their performance hybrid engines.
Trust me, of any car company could make a profit margin like what you're claiming on a vehicle, then they WOULD BUILD THAT VEHICLE!
The whole reason Bugatti took on this project is because no one else would. I'm not saying VW is the only company who could make the car, but I am saying that I don't think any other manufacturer could make the veyron better and cheaper...if they could, they would have.
and do you even know what an alpha male is? Or did you just hear gene simmons use the term on the radio or something? These cars are not alpha cars...people don't look up to men who drive these cars, people look up to ferrari drivers and VEYRON drivers. I suggest using a dictionary before making yourself sound more retarded.

Wilco is right, unfortunately. I'd love to buy a WRX STi, not because I'm a Bruce Lee Type Mo Fo but because I respect the car and because for the money, it's the best performance bargain in years. But, being in my late 30s in a professional job, I know it's impossible. I'd understand, you guys would understand, but 98% of the population would wonder "what in hell is that guy doing in that winged thing?" Can't do it.
What performance car is left for guys like us to drive? Sadly, very little. Automakers assume people like myself will drive an SUV -- hence well-meaning soon to be released tries like the Evolander and the Forrester STi. Well intentioned but no thanks. Beyond those and the Legacy Spec.B (too luxury and soft),the 350Z (two-seater) and the IS350 (automatic only) there isn't much left. Thus, I'll be looking at 2002-03 BMW M3s.
It's a sad state of affairs these days for the older car guys. These two are just not an answer for us. If you are a kid of a well heeled Boomer, these are salad days though.

I completely agree with what ur saying. If your a business person, no one would take you seriously if you were to pull into work one day sporting a car with hood scoops, a diesel wing, and a body kit. But at the same rate; the luxury type sedan expected amongst those in the business world just doesn't compare to the performance of an STi or EVO. That is unless you want to drop well over 100k on a Porsche or Ferrari (which then goes back to the whole two seater thing).
So far, I've only come across one car that comes close to bridgeing the gap between the power and prestige of a luxury sedan, and the acceleration and handling you can only get from a "boy racer car".
The Audi RS4.....this car has a more than decent suspension, Quattro 4WD, and a 0-60 of 4.8; the closest a luxury sedan gets to combined control and acceleration of an EVO or STi. It also has the prcaticality of four doors and five seats, while boasting 420 horsepower; putting it right up there with the power of other luxury sedans.
I honestly don't think car companies will ever design a car with the perfect blend of practicality, control, power, and acceleration; all while maintaining some form of affordability.....but this one is closer than most.
