Sneak Peek: Take A Look At BMW's Upcoming 5 Series Interior and Exterior
Dear 001,

Here are the first photos of the heavily covered interior of the BMW 5-series F10. Getting a glimpse of an upcoming model's interior always provides good insight into the future design language of other upcoming BMW models.

Notice the new side-by-side placement of the gear selector and i-drive knob in the middle console. It appears to resemble the new X5's console. We also get a peak at the new steering wheel.

thanks!

Haha. I think so too.

I've been wanting to get a 5 for a long time but I stick with the 3 because I just think it look a lot better.

The only exception would be a 550i with the M Pack

Just the camo. Its impossible to see what the rear facia looks like although the silhouette certainly resembles the 7 series, which isn't a bad thing.

It looks more like a 7 series than a 5. By the pictures it seems a lot bigger than the current car. The interior is nothing groundbreaking and seems to be an evolution of the current one.

The rear cladding shown resembles the current 7 series likely as a distraction for what lies beneath. I would say BMW has no intent of releasing another bangle butt.

As for the interior, what is groundbreaking might not be the macro appearance, but its functionality, new features, and iDrive improvements.

280SE

I would expect the electronics are much better and more intuitive than those of the current iDrive, which is know universally for its cumbersome interface. I wasnt referring to the rear when I said it looked like a 7, its obvious the camo serves as a distraction but instead the side profile, it has that girth of the 7 series all over it.

BTW 280SE is a great car, one of my favorite infact. What year?

Yeah, that Bangle Butt looks real good on the Toyota Camry and Nissan Altima. That Camry with lower body cladding and BBS type wheels looks similiar to 5 series w/ sports package. No wonder there is little spy photos from Lexus, waiting for BMW's. At least Infiniti is building a sport/luxury car fan base.

I know the link says it is a photo of the 5-series, but the car shot looks a lot like the recent short wheel base 7-series shots circulating.

I think its the upcoming 7-series interior. Also - look how wide the center console is and how plush the seats are - I don't think this is a 5-series.

Anyway..looks like a huge improvement over current BMW interiors (except the X5 which has a nice interior).

Any thoughts?

I think it's the 7 series - why would there be such close-to-production 5 series on the streets, when it's not due till 2010?

I agree. I think they are viewing this incorrectly. Besides, this is one of the few prototypes we have seen. How come we havent seen any "7" prototypes??? especially when its due very very soon!

What are you talking about were mid-way through 2008 making the cars introduction about 1 1/2 - 2 years away. It's not unusual for a higher end vehicle such as the 5-series to have a test mule out 3 years prior to introduction.

A lot of body cladding, tough to see any design language. The interior, however, looks promising.

Why is it every time autospies posts images of an upcoming vehicle with body-cladding all over it, people on this website seem to think that's what the production model will look like.

Wake up! You really think any car company would commit design suicide in the form of a test mule?

BMW is in so much hurry to redesign its 5 series, why didn't they just think of it before they came up with the new model?

Anyhow, the interior still looks ugly, with that middle navigation bubble, I really don't know what were they thinking when they did that? Its the ugliest thing ever.

I love how thoughtless your posts are.

It's as if -can it be?- you aren't ACTUALLY a designer, or know anything about design at all.

"Anyhow, the interior still looks ugly"

Hmmmm.......

So true. I mean, the E60 has been around since 2003 with minimal body changes and has survived an on-slaught of new competition to remain the best selling midsize sedan for years now; of COURSE they're trying to rush and release a new model, and it's only 2 more years before it arrives.

Kinda has a Maserratti look to the front grille. And the rear is reminiscent of a Ferrari with the tails that is. I'd have to see it uncovered.

Awww all you BMW fanboys have really drunk the cool aid. You like the ugliest cars on the planet. That's why BMW can't sell the 7 or the 5. I Think that the 3 is marginally attractive. Thankfully its 70% of BMW sales or the company would be shit.

If I considered myself a jag fan, a company that's circling the drain and performing so badly that it's basically being given away, I would keep my mouth shut about the competition's sales. Especially if I clearly didnt know what I was talking about.

I'm sure you were just being facetious, but if you're really that ignorant, let me clue you in; the 5 series is at the top of the midsize sedan sales column, and certainly in danger of being dethroned by the xf. And the 7 isn't setting a sales record in this its last year, true, but at least its been the best selling 7 ever, with yearly sales close to what jag's whole LINEUP moves in a year.

*certainly in NO danger of the xf, that is.

I think the only thing being smoked is you, but it sounds like you're using some of the good stuff at least. The xf needs a supercharged 400 hp v8 just to KEEP UP WITH the less powerful 550, and the 535 stomps the v8, while getting better gas mileage. I would say that's pretty sad, but seeing as they're close to flat-lining and being burdened onto a new owner, I'll say that's sad, instead.

AUTOSPIES BRETHREN- This is the New- SHORT WHEELBASE 7-series, NOT the new 5. Just got back from Germany- and saw a disguised car in Sindelfingen that looked a lot like this camo- only there was MUCH more camo than this one.
Unless they're adding a FOOT to the 5er, this is the new 7. The rear-side window itslf gave it away- (the retractable part that lowers) itself was nearly as big as the 5er's whole rear side window.
One more thing. The driver inside looked tiny. No way this is a 190 inch long car. It was easily close to 200". I do beleive the new 5er will be very close in dimension to the exisitng one.

People are having a hard time grasping that this could actually be the 5'er but accept it, because it is. Compare these shots to spy photos of the 7 from last year and you'll see the differences.
