This is a very dynamic design. Upon seeing it in real life you might change your mind.

Kalimba, I do like this new C, but...

"The standard A4 is a very plain looking car and has little dynamism in it. The Lexus IS looks like it's trying too hard."

Not any more. The 2007.5 A4 is standard with the S-Line kit. I see what you mean in the front end of the current 2007 model, but the rear end is quite elegant, and sporty at the same time.

On the other hand, the IS isn't "trying too hard," especially not the IS350. It's a very sleek design that doesn't appear to have any needless cladding or unnecessary bodykit treatment. The standard model is "just" aggressive enough, and it's probably the best design Lexus has ever produced (exterior-wise). I don't like the IS-F, though.

Kalimba has a serious problem if he thinks the sleek IS is "disproportionate" but thinks the new C-Class is not. Look at all the character lines practically jumping off the sides and rear of the new C, which has a nice design, but is not as understated and elegant as the IS.

Audi and Lexus... Dynamic? You've got to be kidding. These cars are among the most uninspired on the Planet! Pass the No Doze please. This new Merc is killer...

Will, no need to bash the C-Class just because Kalimba bashed the IS. Notice my comment- I only praised the IS and A4 and didn't bash anyone.

I would say the new C is pretty understated and elegant, especially the Luxury model.

The Lexus IS had little to do with this car. Mercedes has always had a clear definition of what the C-Klasse should be: a compact, comfortable cruiser. In recent years though the clientele age for the C-Klasse has decreased to the 20s and 30s in Europe and abroad, hence we have to offer a car that is dynamically more in tune with the demands of these customers. The new C-Klasse is dynamically very competitive. I currently drive the W204 C220 CDI Avantgarde and it is a fantastic machine from a comfort and sports perspective. Definitely a capable car and I eager to see comparisons in the United States where this car will be compared to its rivals.

It is perhaps interesting that the C-Klasse fulfills the most needs of customers in this segment, moreso than the BMW 3er or Audi A4 and the rest of the competitors according to our market research data. This is the reason the C-Klasse comes with three different trim levels (has since the W202): Classic, Elegance and Avantgarde. Each suits the needs of different C-Klasse buyers and the individualization options further add appeal.

I agree that the Lexus IS had very little to do with this car. How many buyers does Mercedes think they can steal away from the segment leader, the BMW 3-Series?

EXCELLENT CAR - massive improvement over the last gen.
the only thing MB needs to do for the C-class is to upgrade their engines as to overtake competition from other manufacturers like BMW 335i's

Although key competitors now have 300hp engines, the 270hp C350 is definitely more than enough. That car is pretty perfect for the average driver.

Somebody looking to buy a merc or bmw doesn't want to consider themselves as average. An average driver would do fine in a skoda, buick or ford. If you just want a car to get around in i don't you'd buy a merc.

Now that this consumer has read the C-Class sales training presentation, here is what I want:
the sunroof should be a stand-alone option because I never use it and would not order it;
alloy wheels (unless they are two-or three-component wheels) all cost about the same to manufacture so the customer should be given a choice of 2 or 3 wheel styles as standard equipment;
I don't want the administrative headaches of eventually having to replace 2 different tire sizes because of staggered-width wheels -- all wheels and tires, including the spare, should be identical;
I want to be able to pick the grille I want on my C-Class and not have Mercedes tell me that one is a "sport" model and the other is a "luxury" model because I want to be able to combine interior luxury with a sporty exterior look;
Mercedes does not publish full tehnical details about it's new AWD system so I want to be able to order RWD with LSD;
as for engines, I want Mercedes to come up with a proper 60-degree V6 and also to offer the Vision C220 Bluetech version of this car in North America.

Wow, you would be very annoying to sell a car to. You do realize that the interiors of the Sport model and the Luxury model are, for all practical purposes, identical? If you care that much about having wood trim over aluminum, you shouldn't be buying modern cars.

I just cannot do that 3 spoke steering wheel.
it has to be the most hideous steering wheel out there...
And what is up with that SD card reader??
Couldn't they make something more integrated???
What the hell??
Still have to pay extra to get folding seats and a CD changer...always finding a way to get $$ out of people, MB...

CD changer I can understand- almost everyone offers that as an option, with a single-disc standard. But folding seats? C'mon!

CD changer in a car like this SHOULD be standard.
I cannot tell you how many times I have folded my seats down in my A4...it always comes in handy.
I always laugh when I see another car with the trunk lid in the air with something sticking out of the trunk.... "Should have ponied up the extra $450 for the folding seats.."
