Ok...

We all know it's coming, and it's pretty obvious that the design doesn't stray too far from the concept.

Why not simply wait for something official now, rather than post a constant barrage of plastic-clad test mules?

I wish they'd bring this to the US. This is the first VW I've gotten excited about since the last Scirocco. I think they should slot it above the R32, because the concept looked that good!

Yes-It needs to come here. VW needs a true sport coupe in the US.If not the coupe then how about the convertable!

I hope it comes here, too... but one problem: where would it be positioned? Above all Golf/Rabbit variants? Because then it would conflict with the A3.

Or, maybe not. They are completely different, after all. But I still hope it comes here and finds its niche in the market. Could it have a performance spin-off and compete with the EVO and STi?

The most unfortunate part might be the cost, as the Eos is already a pretty pricey lil' bugger, and this would surely slot about that vehicle.

We're talking 30k here!

Daharder, cite references please! Don't just make up numbers. Even though the Scirocco may share the same assembly plant and chassis as the Eos, it will not share its expensive convertible top and options. I strongly doubt that a Scirocco base price will be more than US$23k... only slightly more than a GTI.

I further predict that the Scirocco will fit nicely as a sportier vehicle than the Golf/Rabbit/GTI: more performance, less family-friendly. The limited-edition R32 should probably be succeed by a high-output awd Scirocco model in 2010.

The GTI starts at 22500$ and most dealers are selling it at 23500-25000 and the Eos starts at 28000 and i've yet to see or hear of any markups for that car. I really don't see any room for this car in their lineup. It's a shame though it should be a great car.

Moto...

It's all speculation at this point, so there are no references to cite.

But I firmly believe that you'd be foolish to believe that this vehicle will not be positioned above the Eos, which is indeed near 30k (here in Las Vegas at least).

Why would they position it above the EOS? How would that make any sense? I could see it coming close to the EOS's base price--but it definitely won't be more.

There would be no reason to price above the Eos and it would go against VW new pricing policy to compete with Toyota. The Eos is expensive because of it's folding top.The platform is a mixture of Golf and Passat. Because of this VW could certainly contain the price to slightly higher then the GTI. I have contended that there would be room for both if the GTI was limited to the 4dr version only. While this(4dr GTI) would perhaps take some sales away from the Jetta GLI(which I think there is little point to).The Sirocco would finally give VW a sports coupe that its been missing from the line up for quite some time.It would not compete with the A3 as Audi's are priced higher then VW's anyway(and always have been). The Sirocco would be VW's answer to the Cicic SI,Mustang,Mini Cooper,Volvo C30 ETC. I think it would be a good halo car for VW in the US.

You can make all the comparisons to segment cars you want, even to VAG's own lineup.... but the fact remains, that if VW is not willing to take a chance on the drivetrain, then only the most diehard fans will but this car. The engine choices are too limited, and it would be nice to see them at least option the W8 (a more reliable W8 of course) or at least the 3.6L. Other wise it'll still be a sheep in sheep's clothing.
