The 2008 Volvo V70 Raises the Ante for Soccer Moms
Volvo’s update of its popular mid-sized station wagon has just arrived, with our friends from Auto Motor & Sport Sweden tipping us off on some key details about the new car. The vehicle picks up many of its styling cues and accessories from the larger S80 sedan. Rear-end styling carries over with the characteristic vertical brake lights from the predecessor, but with a broader base as seen on the new C30 hatch and XC60 concept. Luggage space is up 55L over the previous model, and shoulder room in the front increases 3cm, while legroom for backseat passengers grows 4.8cm. The extra space is due to growth in all dimensions over the outgoing model. Total length is now 4.85m and width is 1.86m, up 14.3cm and 6cm respectively.

Nice looking wagon.

I like the headlights because they don't have a stupid forced exaggerated shape. Just a normal shape.

I am a big Volvo fan, always have been. But I am just not loving the new style of this, or the S80. They do nothing for me, maybe i need to see one in person. Just feel like they are missing something, too blah. I have always loved how understated they are, but would love to see a bit more of XC60 concept brought to life.

Not bad.

Not as classy as the E-Class wagon or A6 Avant, but good, nonetheless.

Probably more reliable though.

I can see it. People were saying the S80 looks like an Audi; this is the same exact thing. Seems to me like a last-generation A6 and A4 put together.

pretty nice wagon, the head lights are what makes the car look sharp and nice.

I saw the Volvo's at the auto show in Houston yesterday, and the S80 is beautiful and extremely comfortable. (Only problem is that at the price point for the V8 there's a lot of competition.) If this update of the V70 incorporates the same upgrades it will be a great wagon to own.

I agree, Volvo's don't always 'wow' people on paper, but they make a fantastic ownership proposition. The XC90 is proof of this, handsome, well-built and effortlessly practical and comfortable.

The new V70 will continue the trend.

Nice look. This is a grocery getter I wouldn't be embarrased to be seen in. I agree with comments here about the headlight treatment on new Volvos. Very modern.
