Top 20 Vehicles For September 2009

All makers do it. Take for instance the Explorer and the Sport Trac. Even the past Sport trac was counted as an Explorer sale even though the were two totally different vehicles.

Same goes for F-series. Other than sharing the letter "F", not much shared in all those vehicles counted together. The Corolla/Matrix actually share a lot of hardware.

Wait, are you saying there isn't much similarity between an F-150 and an F-250? ffs the F-250 is nearly identical minus stiffer suspension .

The F-150 and the F-250 have different bodies, interiors, different chassis......then there are the F450 and others.

lol are you kidding me there is no reason for that. Than place the DTS, Lucerne, and Impala as the same car. The Aura, Lacrosse, G6, and Malibu as the same car. Either way its not accurately reporting numbers. Or the expedition, navigator, and F150 all on the same line.....yeah

Matrix is the hatchback version of the Corolla, or at least that's the reasoning behind lumping the two together.

The Matrix looks nothing like the Corolla, you would be more accurate grouping the Matrix with the Vibe then you would with the Corolla.

for those who deboosted me... I believe I need to make a clarification to you, as the Vibe/Matrix are virtually identical cars and share the same platform with changes mainly in badging and body panels.

I agree with Joe. While the Matrix is related to the Corolla, it is no more similar to the Corolla than the Subaru Forester is similar to the Impreza. Just because they are built on the same platform, they are not the same car. Back in the day, Chrysler/Dodge or Plymouth could have had the number one sales vehicles when every car they made in there perspective divisions were based on that cab forward platform.

I owned one. Trust me. It's a Corolla Matrix. Says so right on the owner's manual. BTW, the original XRS was a pretty badass little car, mine was solar yellow. It was hot.

Along with the new 2009 Corolla, Toyota unveiled its closest sibling, the 2009 Corolla Matrix at the 2007 SEMA Show in Las Vegas. Think of it as a Corolla wagon, though Toyota would like you to believe it's inspired by crossovers and SUVs yet has the "soul of a two-door sports car. Sports cars, however, usually come with larger motors than what the Matrix is packing. The five-door hatch can be had with either a 1.8L four-cylinder producing 132 HP or a 2.4L four generating 158 HP, both of which are shared with the Corolla sedan. Trim levels for the Matrix are trimmed down to just the Standard, S and XRS. Both engines are available with any trim level, and are paired with either a five-speed manual or four-speed auto with the 1.8L engine and five-speed auto with the 2.4L engine. The Standard model rolls on 16-inch steel wheels with a six-spoke wheel cover, while the S model gets 17-inch five-spoke aluminum wheels and the XRS wears 18-inch twin five-spoke rims.
