There are three cars in the final list. You can say Audi, Audi..., Mini is a BMW too.

I'm sick of Lexus fanboys on this site, yes, but I'm also sick of the anti-Lexus fanboys. This article is about 3 cars and yet you get posts like "I'm sick of Lexus." There's plenty of room for discussion pro and con without going into the rabid screaming insults that any thread with the word "Lexus" in it devolves into.

Although the Lexus is a nice car and technologically advanced as far as electronics, I don't think that its engineering comes close to the TT.
The TT gets you an Alumium Space Frame, DSG tranny, first Turbo Charged engine that has Direct Injection and even Magnetic Ride, something you find in Exotic cars.
The TT will give the Lexus a run for its money for this award.

Interesting finalists. No hybrids, no diesel, no hydrogen, no MB-S or BMW-7! I wonder what the criteria for selection was?

These are only new cars. S-Class was one of last year's finalists, I think.

Wow, this one took a while to hit the blog circuit… this is ancient news by net standards.

In any case the only real surprise for me in any category is the "Green" category; where it seems almost trendy to favor the notably absent Toyota. BMW’s hydro 7 has been largely criticized as better idea in concept than everyday practice, M-B’s initial E Class Bluetec won’t pass CA’s emission standard (though a follow up E will, supposedly, and the G class Bluetec will also) and VW has hardly made any noise at all with their BlueMotion. Between the 3, I bet M-B’s Bluetec gets it by a fairly wide margin.

Lexus is not the best get it thru your thick skulls. No automaker is the best because all of them have flaws.

I think the CL is the World Car of the Year. At first I was skeptical about this new design but it's grown on me a lot. The LS would probably come second behind the CL and the TT after that.

TT.

Audi has won before. They seem to like the brand.

One other thing? This is a WORLD CAR OF THE YEAR. On other parts of the world, a lot of people don't know what a Lexus is. I like the LS... but everyone knows the TT is a fashion icon. Not many people in, say, Spain know what an LS460 is.

I go to Spain often, and I can say I have never seen a Lexus.

Good point. However there's no doubt that this would be a great marketing achievement for the new LS, which by the way is sold everywhere in the world as the Lexus LS.

By the way, Lexus is sold in Spain.

I agree, and I'm sure it is sold in Spain. But that really doesn't make much of a difference.

I wouldn't be surprised if the LS won "North American Car of the Year," though.

It probably going to be between the Lexus LS460 and the Audi TT. But it would be some really funny/bs shit if the Mini win the title. They should have choosen another car instead of the Mini. But hey! let be fair the Mini is one of the top three so it has just as much chance of winning first place.

I hope the Lexus LS460 win this award because it will help make the image of Lexus more better. Lexus is not perfect, but near dawn perfect.

IMO the Jag XK should've been up there instead of the Mini.

I guess they need an "everyman's" car up there, too; not everyone can afford a TT, much less an LS460.

mini has great improvement from just a box to a box with bmw inside ... audi has improved greatly ... and the lexus has made a dramatic improvement and has sold a lot of cars....

I say

1. LS 460L - not because im a lexus freak
2. Mini Cooper S
3. Audi TT 3.2

Do we know it's the 3.2? The TT 2.0T is actually better... see for yourself. 2.0T w/ DSG is much better (feels faster) than any 3.2 quattro car.

For me, it would be a hard choice between TT and LS460. TT, for sexy style and relative economy and performance. LS, for comfort and power.

It would have to be the Mini! It is the only car that is even slightly attainable for most people! This title is a joke anyway! These are all fine cars, but they aren't "cars of the year"! A car of the year should be a relatively cheap car that most people can afford or represents some kind of revolution in production, emmisions or availability! Not the one with the most curvatious lines, most go kart'ish handling or most electronic gadgetry! If they had to choose any of those, it should either have a diesel or hybrid engine!

This is just silly!

TT!
I think it's a big step foward, but notice how all these cars are progressive designs from the previous generations?

It says alot about the new LS that it made the top three. Impressive are all three of these cars. I think we all know which one I'm for, but let me also say that I'd pick the TT before the Mini.

I could ask the same thing about the LS460.

All are very impressive vehicles, for obvious reasons.

The Mini is a brilliant realization of the past Cooper. It is a "cute" car the world over, and retains its kart-like handling while gaining additional luxury features over the last generation.

The TT is a renowned fashion icon, and instead of being "all show, no go," Audi has managed to engineer this car to greatness. 2.0T and DSG are one of the best engine/transmission pair-ups in the entire industry.

What car won in 2006? The Audi A6 won in 2005. With the TT in the finals this year it proves how much more respected Audi is internationally as opposed to here in the U.S. - I'm also suprised that the Benz CL or the Jag XK didn't make it to the final 3.

The LS 460 deserves it this year.

But we all know that the European journalists have their favorites.
