I hate to say it but it seems as though Toyota Motor Sales could be living in an alternate universe. BUT, that could be a good thing because that's where all GREAT innovations come from.

According to reports, one of the world's largest automakers is planning to launch a luxury-focused product in an effort to essentially reshape the automotive world. That's exactly what a fuel cell vehicle would do.

Though we have to admit that Tesla's Model S has done a damn good job of meeting a need, there are two significant problems for the do gooder:

1) Sure it uses electricity to power the vehicle and that's great. BUT, where does that power come from?

2) After the batteries are toast, then what? A 1,000 pound collection of batteries are left to rot in a landfill?

While the hydrogen-powered car is far from perfect, it will be interesting to see if Toyota can make this happen, and if it does, how it will take to the buying public.

We do know the project is in good hands. That's because the Chief Engineer of the Prius is driving this one. Good luck, Takeshi Uchiyamada. You'll need it.
