VW-Audi Group is looking to boost Lamborghini sales. They have to drop prices but there will be concessions, in this case power cuts. The Lamborghini Gallardo will be offered with the Audi R8's 420 bhp V8.

Very bad idea... Lambos should have exclusivity including powerplants. If they start running Lambo like they run VW with all the cost cutting and filtering sales will fall. Not that the R8's engine is a problem, its just not a lambo's engine. Im sure there are other ways to boost sales with existing product other than adding smaller engine options.

Gallardo V10 is very similar to Audi S4 V8, I used to work at an Audi dealer with Lambo next door, now I know it's not the same, but there already is some sharing.

RE: "If they start running Lambo like they run VW with all the cost cutting and filtering sales will fall."
hate to tell you this, but while you were sleeping, VW has been running Lambo for many years, and Lamborghini might not be around without them!
VW has turned them around, as they did with Audi.

I would never buy a Lambo anyway as it probably requires $700 or $800 oil changes like the Ferrari so this issue is academic for me; however, I do wish to stress that if the R8 has a great engine, it makes sense for Lambo not to reinvent the wheel and install an R8 engine with Lambo valve covers to placate brand-conscious customers. My advice to these people is to make sure you know what the brand promises before you commit to it. If the brand fails to deliver on its promise, you owe it to fellow consumers to bad-mouth the brand to your friends.

This is definitely not good, because I think it depreciate the value of Lambo. If you drive and own one of this Lambo with an Audi R8 engine you be the laughing stock in your ingroup or outgroup.

Well having worked in the largest volume Lambo dealer ( I was on the Audi side), as long as it's yellow, fast, loud, & have Lamborghini badges it will sell.

"as long as it's yellow, fast, loud, & have Lamborghini badges it will sell."

That's so funny ... I'm sure its true!

just like "as long as its comfy, shiny, and has a Lexus badge, it will sell!"

Imagine a Lexus promoter diss'ing other badge snobs! :)

If they downgrade the engine, don't you think people would now have other option like the V8 Vantage instead of the V8 Gallardo.

Sure ... just like the LS300 will never sell ... you either buy the V8 or shop other brands! ???????
I don't think so.
Watch a V8 Lambo outsell all other models combined, along with a hot market for V-10 badges on e-Bay.

last time I was back in Miami for the weekend, 3 Lambos, all yellow. And as far as the dealer probably 25-30 cars and almost half yellow. Think of the big markets, the majority of owners want a flashy car, not a V8 Vantage.
