The ouster of two key General Motors Co. executives in the past week has left some outside the Renaissance Center questioning the culture and management direction within the organization. The departures were announced just weeks after GM dismissed its European chief.

Global Chief Marketing Officer Joel Ewanick's resignation Sunday — and North American interior design leader David Lyon's sudden departure Thursday, less than a week before he was to become GM Europe's vice president of design come as the automaker tries to get a handle on its market-share drop, falling stock price and money-losing European operations. It is expected to report its second-quarter earnings Thursday.
