Two Tuned Lexus Models from the Upcoming SEMA 2007
As previously mentioned, this year’s SEMA event will showcase nine Lexus models tuned up by aftermarket companies. Most of these companies make little or no mention of this fact on their websites, but two of the tuners have put up some teaser images:

I may not be a huge Lexus fan, but I prefer the stock Lexus. But the SC really needs to be destroyed tuned or not. And All of the idiots making "Lexus" comments like "Lexus is better than this" etc. don't do it. Thanks.

man I'm tired of such Lexus haters. True these two models aren't customized in any special way, they're just basic. But my friend, face the truth and fact that as a production car Lexus is beyond better than any of its competitors.
Where have you seen a Lexus with 50k and 60k miles with broken engine and transmission? You don't, you see MB/MBW/Audi/Jaguar with such symptoms.

If this doesn't make Lexus better than all of its competitors, and if you define "better" as sporty driving, then you better then get you a sport Japanese car and trust me, you'll be more satisfied.

what the hell are you talking about designer?
your claims are unjustified
i own a 1999 ML320 that is supposedly part of the lemon cars that MB produced - however, it has 80K miles with no failures (transmission, engine) and has only had routine maintenance. That's for you!!!

"Where have you seen a Lexus with 50k and 60k miles with broken engine and transmission? You don't, you see MB/MBW/Audi/Jaguar with such symptoms"

Actually there are a lot more Lexus cars with broken engines and transmissions than BMW and Mercedes cars have, put together. While the size of the cup holders seems to be one of the biggest problems German cars exhibit, Lexus(and any other Japanese car for that matter) is known for having long term reliability problems. Everybody in the enthusiast world knows that Japanese cars don't last, transmission and suspension problems coupled with the body of the car effectively falling apart after 2-3 years are some of the most often encountered problems with these tin cans made in Japan. Any Mercedes and BMW car will bury at least two generation of Lexus cars. I recommend a reality check for Lexus fans.

Ok guys, now I'm not one of the those kids that makes up stories. I've own a 1998 S430, and it had 65k miles and the transmission blew UP. I rebuilt it and sold the car. I've owned a 1997 Jaguar XJK, and it had 70k or so miles and the engine head blew up, fixed it and sold it. I've seen 1998 740iL with 60k or so miles on it with a blown up engine, Audi A8 80K miles with blown up engine. My dad drives a 1991 LS400 and it has 270k miles on it and that car had not a single problem, we joke about it and say we'll make a 300k miles anniversary for the car when it gets there, and trust me it will and beyond. I've owned many other Lexus cars, SC400, GS300, LS400, and ALL went over 130k miles, the ONLY problem I had with the LS's and SC was replacing the front suspension joints, those cost me each $68 or so.

Trust me, my list of owning cars is long and experience with Germen cars sucks, this is besides what I've heard from friends who've driven BMW/MB/Audi.
So the hell that I'm talking about is simply, reality. Like it or not, this is the fact my friend!

So with my experience with cars, this DOES make Lexus a far better car than all the rest.

Currently I drive a 2000 LS400 and it has some 143k miles on it, and it rock the house! :-)

Monk, matter of fact I just remembered in my previous job a co-worker's wife had the same car as you do, 1999 ML320, and they replaced the transmission on 50k or so miles.
Trust me, NONE of this is made out stories like many of the Lexus haters post here. These are facts and if anyone doesn't believe them, they're either ignorants or been lucky with their German car's quality.

reliability. woo hoo.

and it's hardly even better in that any more. have you read your precious JD powers lately. BMW had 0.5 problems more per car OVER THREE YEARS vs. lexus. and they were both well above average. if you disagree, please back up your opinions with FACTS.

"And All of the idiots making "Lexus" comments like "Lexus is better than this" etc. don't do it. Thanks."

Oh yes only Lexus fans you point out. Where here there are many German fanboys who do the same. Im not with the tuned SC, widebody and rice go hand in hand when that was made. The GS430 is old news now.

Designer, even though this article has little to do with reliability, ill throw in my experience. 1996 LS400, damage history so far, blown power steering pump, old coil spring broke, oil leak, and a few blemishes around the body. Engine is at 95k miles.

well, according to you, designer1, I am very lucky to not have bought a lemon. But reliability hasn't taken Lexus anywhere in Europe. design, quality, reliability, engineering, prestige all count there - EQUALLY

Designer, you seem to base a car's excellence on its reliability only. This is a very constrictive, boring, abnormal view, and many people would disagree.

"But my friend, face the truth and fact that as a production car Lexus is beyond better than any of its competitors.

My A6 had 85,000 miles on it when the lease was up. The only problem I ever had with it was the headlight washer cap coming off. NO engine problems, NO transmission problems.

Your numerous "transmission/engine blew up" instances seem suspicious. That's all I'm saying about that...

We have had two Lexus RX's and they have both been very good experiences. My wife is trading in her RX330 in Q1 '08-- for a European car. She doesn't want another Lexus. Don't ask me why. But you must account of the fact that the experiences I've had with my four Audis have been equally good- if not better. Not only have they had very few reliability problems (the only engine problem was an oil leak on the used A4 I bought for my son), but they drive better, look better and are better-built than our Lexuses. Yes, better-built. They feel more substantial.

Designer1

Im on my 3rd BMW now and trust me none of them had issues (except minor issues that is). My 1st BMW was a 740iL 1997, sold it at 100k and was problem free. My 2nd BMW was the M5 2006, sold it at 15k, but it was as solid and reliable as ever. As for now I have a E70 X5, and I didnt face ANY problems yet.

But to be fair, I never owned a Lexus, but has driven a couple of them. But trust me not everyone that has a Lexus has been satisfied. My uncle has a GS430 2006, he had to change the transmission on it, and YES its a new Lexus.

No one car maker is perfect but you make it sound like if you dont have a Lexus, your car will explode...

Well im officially disappointed... I was expecting something for the IS since its the more performance ended car of the brand. I saw the Blitz GS430 before, in fact even before I heard the announcement for SEMA.

If I used the words to accurately describe those tuner cars my post would be deleted.

I'll just simply say that those look like poo.

Who else would rather drive a Hyundai then any of these monstrosities?
I agree with answer.

And I never quite realised how much the SC looks like a really fat Infiniti G37.

Lexus is #1, it's only a matter of time before the "F" is superior to AMG and M.

"Time" does not solve problems. While Lexus is moving forward quickly, Audi, BMW and Mercedes-Benz are all moving at the same rate. They are COMPETITIVE. Nobody is standing still. Their sales are not going to simply go away. People are not going to flip a switch one day and start saying "F is better than M" for no reason.

Use your head.

well while we're waiting, i'll stick with the M and AMG cars. thanks so much for your suggestions.

Star, I don't know if I would go making claims that Lexus has bigger issues with reliability than Mercedes and BMW COMBINED. BMW and Mercedes make great cars, but Toyota/Lexus make pretty reliable cars and that's common sense. My moms been driving a 2001 Lexus IS with 191K and hasn't had a single, except needing new brakes. That's pretty damn reliable and I know a lot of people with BMW's that are always having to be fixed

Toyota/Lexus make reliable cars but when it comes to specific comparisons between engine/transmission from a Lexus vs Mercedes/BMW, the Japanese maker looses in reliability. Indeed, German cars had more quirks and because of that they were perceived as less reliable but the reality is that when it comes to the reliability of the important(expensive)parts engine/transmission or body integrity the German cars last a lot longer than a Lexus. Toyota was known for having severe engine sludge problems that caused a huge number of premature engine failures. There was never an issue like this with any German car. The worst of all is still the feeling you get when you drive a 1-2 year old Japanese car. It feels wasted...even if is still drives, the condition of the car is comparable with a 10 years old German car.

everyone will be biased towards their liking. for some, they care mostly upon reliability. for others, its performance of the vehicle. etc.

now german enthusiasts prefer the sportier feel and performance they get out of the BMW/MB/Audi, etc.

japanese enthusiasts can count ont he car taking a beating and it keep on ticking, all while still offering far mor than adequate performance, luxury, etc.

dont beleive me, how many toyota's (even volvo's) have reached the million-plus mile mark compared the german counterparts of BMW/MB, etc?
