V10 Audi R8-RS preview
We’ve seen the prototypes testing at the Nurburgring and read about the Lambo-sourced V10 engine. Now, we finally get a glimpse of what the final production version of the RS-prepped Audi R8 should look like. The current V8 model is already impressive enough to compete with Porsche’s best and can even give its Gallardo cousin a run for its money, but with a V10 powerplant on board developing around 500hp, the new RS version of the R8 will be in another league altogether. Yes, that was an early development prototype. It burnt to a crisp.

Sorry, had to do it.

I really seriously think Audi is creating a Lambo and Ferrari fighter. I also think Audi will eventually sales their Lambo brand to someone else once the R8 and R10 is well establish within auto ethusiast.

Someone would have to pay Audi a huge pile of cash if they sold it off any time soon. It just became a profitable company for the first time in years and it took a long time to get it there. Lambo expects to have a record year this year with over 2500 units sold. The company is doing very very well. Audi has proven to be a great steward for the brand, probably the best one they've ever had. I don't see them selling it off just yet. A few years of solid profitability and then we'll see. It would be worth a whole lot more if they waited. The engineering money has already been spent. They may as well reap the rewards for a little while then cash in BIG later on.

I don't think they'd sell Lamborghini, at least not in the next decade or two. It's given them fantastic platforms and engineering, as well as profitability and prestige, and Audi has given Lambo guys so much else in return. The only company I can see going out of the VW Group around now is Skoda.

Not if your stock price is based on 10 times earnings.

it'll be something once released. I think its a move to put Audi into Lambo's current niche, and up the Lambo lines to becoming supercars yet again.

Realistically, 0-60 in mid 3s, top of 205, and 600ish HP is becoming too common to be called Supercars. I think VW just wants to move up Lambo's position.

Move Lambo up to what? Bugatti territory? VW with all its brands is becoming so huge that they're going to have to overlap themselves in a couple of areas.

Threepoint, they already are. That's why the VW Group is such a delicate balance- it is able to maintain every brand in its portfolio without problem, but with enough looseness to have some overlap.

That's exactly my point. Lambo is in a good position, why and where would they move up is the question I was presenting.

Are you telling me that theres not much room between:

HorsePowers : 640 (LP640) & 1001 (Veyron)
Price: $400K & $1.4M
Top Speed: 205mph & 253mph
0-60: 3.5 & 2.5

It's kinda odd that now the gap of very fast cars (4.0-4.5 sec 0-60) and Supercars (0-60 in under 4.0 secs) is roughly .5 secs to 1.0 sec differential. It shows the development of cars is is emmense. Now about roughly 5-7 Super cars can do the 60 in under 3.8 secs, compare to 10 years ago, there is was about 3, if that.

I think this V10 powered R8 will get it's driver a good look at the Corvette Blue Devil's tail lights.

We'll have to see about that. Two things are for certain, no Vette will ever beat this R8 in 0-60mph due to its supreme AWD grip and on the twisties you can forget any Vetter being close enough to even see the rear lights of this V10 beast.

Why am i deboosted for telling the truth? I love Audis, but the truth is that on a racetrack or open road, the R8 4.2 couldn't pull itself to within 3 car-lengths of a Z06. This V10 R8 will be very desirable, and far superior to the Vette in many ways... just not acceleration.

This car will be another one that will be able to do the 0-60 mph sprint in 3.8 seconds or less.

Considering Audi's official time for the Audi R8 with 420 horsepower V8 is 4.6 seconds and the car has been tested routinely in the 4.1-4.3 second range with the two fastest times being 4.0 and 3.9 seconds respectively.

Most likely with an additional 80 horsepower and more torque the Audi R8 with V10 whatever you would like to call it will have an official 0-60 time of 4.3 seconds and will be able to do the 0-60 run in 3.6 - 3.8 seconds.

Considering the V8 version gets an official 8:04 around the ring, look for this V10 version to clear the 8:00 minute barrier.

I think "Lexus" is guessing a bit high; I would be surprised if it was much over $150K.

I think this Audi R8 with a V10 with around 500hp will probably cost around $170K-$200K for sure.
