While everyone tends to talk about the podium finishes for each class at the end of a race, we have to keep in mind that it isn't all smiles. Racing is not only a physical sport, it is a mental one as well. And when you're talking about a 24 hour endurance race, well, you'll get all sorts of madness.

Of course there's crashes. Then there's fires — you didn't think the drivers AND pit crews wear fire retardant gear for no reason, did you? And, in some cases, there's generalized chaos as seen with the crash of the number eight Audi R18.

Although I firmly believe that these are NOT reasons to watch ANY race or sporting event, we do want to show you some of the real aspects of racing.

If you want to see people get hurt, in the words of Penn Jillette "_ _ _ _ you in the neck!"

This year there were no reported fatalities and as far as I have seen injuries are not serious in nature. Considering how hard some of these hits are and the couple of fires that did happen, this is remarkable.

Now, onto the craziness.
