Ask and you shall receive.

It must have been a slow year. The 1.8L Corolla engine gets the same mileage and performance, no hype required. Corolla gets 7.1 and 5.3L/100km with the manual.

Good that they got the performance, but they should've gotten better mileage.

Actually, go to their respective UK websites and the 1.4L TSI Golf has the same emissions as the 1.6L Auris, both are 5dr hatches and get 7L/100km combined.

As I said, was a slow year.

Look at the figures.

Toyota Auris 1.6 VVT
124hp
0-60 : 10.4 sec
European combined milage - 7.1L/100km

VW Golf 1.4 TSI
140hp
0-60 : 8.7 sec
European combined milage - 7.0L/100km

Not to mention the one with similar engine power

VW Golf 1.4 TSI
122hp
0-60 : 9.4 sec
European combined milage - 6.3L/100km

No, we just remember back further than last year. The Corolla's 1.8L engine has been out since 1999. VW had 8 years to catch up and all they did was turbo a small engine to match the performance and mileage of a larger engine.

You also forget about the 2000 Celica GTS which had the same 1.8L engine but retuned to 180hp. The emissions and mileage were a bit higher (but that was 8 years ago), it would easily beats todays TSI engine.

Don't ask me why Toyota doesn't give Europe their better engines.

Yes indeedy, a very slow year in the JDM. Good thing for VW that Toyota isn't really trying in Europe yet.

btw, for the most part, the GT would easily be more than a match for the TSI.

Maybe you'd like the VW Golf GT TSI then?

VW Golf GT 1.4 TSI
170hp
0-60 : 7.3 sec
European combined milage - 7.2L/100km

Please show me a toyota that shows better figures both in milage and performance.

The only modern european Toyota with atleast the closest performance and milage is the Toyota Yaris 1.8 16v VVT-i

Toyota Yaris 1.8 16v
133hp
0-60 : 9.3 sec
European combined milage - 7.2L/100km

But then again, the Yaris is only VW Polo size.
So you could get a Polo GTI with the old 1.8 Turbo while sacrifizing a bit of economy at 7.8L/100km, but you will go from 0-60 in 8.0 sec.

Great Technology...so what is the big surprise? That they did not choose another Japanese car?
