Wall Street Journal pans the new Shelby GT500
In a nutshell they say the interior is cheap, it handles poorly and it is way too expensive. They said: "While driving the Mustang was enjoyable, its price seemed out of line and would be hard to justify, even for buyers who are shopping strictly for a fun, fast car".

That might be a little harsh, but the hype around this car has been unbelievable. Even 500 hp it is not faster than a regular Corvette.

The problem is that it's too damm heavy! The thing weighs 4000 LBS!! Ford should have done a normally asperated Aluminum 5.4 with 400HP and kept the weight down. It would have been just as fast and better handling with less understeer. However I would view the the Wall Street Journal article with a grain of salt. I mean it's really not known for it's car reviews.

pg54,

I agree about the mustang's weight issue. If ford wants to continue to be any kind of competitive in the sports car arena they need a 2 door (and a sportier 4 door than the fusion) around 3200 pounds (preferrably less). Then shoehorn in the aluminum V8. Due to the mustangs heritage, Ford will never lighten it (imo). It'll take a whole new vehicle for Ford to compete.

Below 3,200 pounds, higly unlikely. And the way that the Mustang is selling, why would Ford bother.
