Who Are The Winners And Losers So Far For The Year
At the close of the 3rd quarter many manufacturers will take a look back assess their position and make the final assualt to sell more cars than they did last year.

With a shaky market, and tight consumer lending in place, it has been a tough job for everyone, but there are a few clear cut winners for the year so far.

With 230 selling days completed, coincidently the same as last year, all of the various reporting methods converge on a singular figure and can be judged equally.

Who is doing the best job beating last years figures and who is dragging their heels?

Regardless of actual numbers, the single biggest winner so far this year has to be Cadillac.
The new CTS is simply a masterpiece of design/engineering/manufacturing.

It's rare that I am totally blown away after a test drive, but this vehicle is Just That Good.

There's now doubt that the CTS-V will be my next sports sedan!

Meaning what?

After actually owning 26 vehicles (as opposed to pretending to have owned them... like some others in here), I've pretty much experienced (through ownership) every 'alleged' dream car I desired in the past, some ending up being more nightmare than anything else, and this latest batch of 'executive sedans' either look ridiculous (i.e. the 5-series with its Kabuki-faced front end and 'oh I forgot to add the trunk' Bangle Butt) or far too similar to generations past (Audi's lovely, but theme-tired A6).

The Cadillac looks very fresh and forward-thinking, with an interior that is simply THE CLASS LEADER in design/ergonomics... The fact that it drives as well as any of them (even in current spec) is enough for me to make my decision.

I'm so over playing 'Fan-Boy' for any make or model, I'm buying what I want, and if someone does or doesn't approve, they can just F-OFF!

Good to see Mitsu doing better. Ford is getting crushed, down 289,000 vehicles, that's more than the total SOLD by Mercedes, Audi and Jaguar combined. Chrysler and Buick are also screwed. Most of those at the bottom come at no suprise.

You know what the problem is with GM...A Buick is now more exclusive than a Cadillac. And saying Cadillac is the biggest winner...You think the stock holders would agree? Usally near a 10 percent loss of buisness is a bad sign.

Audi is hardly top of the Germans. It is much harder for a company that already sells a lot of vehicles to grow as quickly as one that does less vloume. If you look at the loss of the parent company VW which brings in a larger cash flow than the Audi, The company and a whole is not doing all that well.

"If you look at the loss of the parent company VW which brings in a larger cash flow than the Audi, The company and a whole is not doing all that well."

Actually, Audi is the bacon-bringer in the VW group. They make most of the profits.

Also, you can't forget Bentley- very profitable, and one of the biggest winners for the year.

Those numbers must be incorrect for Audi USA, If i remember correctly they had around 180 thousand vehicles sold in 2006. ERAU06 VW "The company and a whole is not doing all that well" By this you mean that all the money put into designing and producing the A5 and and R8 are not well?
Plus the fact that Audi owns Bentley and they are working on adding the R and T lineups in the Flying Spur and Continental GT. Bentley would not be doing this unnecessary package lineup on those vehicles if sales as a "whole" we're not substantial.

No- Audi sold a bit more 90,000 vehicles here last year. They will make 100,000 this year, but it will be a squeeze. At least November/December are their strongest months, usually.

caltrans..aka moron. audi is not even close to bmw. at this rate it will be 2200 before they can catch up and thats assuming their growth wont slow down. and it has to as they exhaust new models and need organic growth. for amature company like bmw to grow at8.1 percent is quite simply, domination. you go do your homework. before you respond with your cheap audi stuff, please tell us what you do and drive. i am sick of vw types posting on boards. and audi is their aspirational vehicle. boy it must suck not making a lot of money.

Wrong as usual.

Audi's growth will NOT slow down- they have so much potential in the US market, while BMW is nearing its ceiling. And, you can't forget the world, either; the Chinese market is where they really shine. They absolutely dominate with the A6 there- and it will be its biggest market eventually. I believe it's already surpassed the US sales. They also sell more than BMW in Germany, the UK and a few other countries; I believe they're only behind Mercedes-Benz in Europe as a whole.

I am very proud of/happy for BMW. They are an amazing company- their cars continue to impress, their profits are still up and their sales are through the roof. But you can't deny that Audi is looming pretty closely--right next to Mercedes-Benz--in their rear view.

GermanNutGermanNut - 10/8/2007 5:30:27 PM
+4 BoostDrop the Boost Up the Boost
amazinBimmer obviously doesn't realize that Audi's growth won't slowdown and Audi is expected to grow, according to industry analysts, at approximately 10% per year for the next 10 years. Look at Mercedes' shitty growth rate of 1.8%. They are going to get passed by Audi within 3 years.

amazinBimmer also doesn't realize that with $10 billion invested in strictly new product development, Audi is clearly capable of continuing this growth rate. Add to the fact, China will be the largest car market in the world by 2015, which Audi happens to dominate by a huge margin and the sustained growth rate of 10% becomes even more real.

Oh yeah, I forgot to add the next generation Bentley Continental Flying Spur will be based off of the next generation Audi A8. By it must suck driving a $200K Volkswagen

2015 amazinBimmer, your reign of BMW leading the sales race will be over.

boy it must suck not being able to give respect to a company that will outsell your favorite brand globally within the next 8 years.

tell us what do you drive, amazinBimmer? A brand that will be losing to Audi in the next 8 years??????

Why is this interesting news?! I fail to see the value of this piece of news, and I fail to see why people make such a big deal of it... What does growth rate have to do with making good cars?!

BTW: To the loosers discussing who has the bigger car (company)... or smallest willie... WHY ARE YOU WASTING YOUR OWN AND EVERYBODY ELSES TIME WITH THIS CRAP?!

amazinBimmer: If you are still too young to comprehend the fact that Audi makes cars which are just as good as BMWs and has little more to do with VWs than BMWs have to do with Peugeots, you need to get going on that kindergarten grade and stop wasting everybodies time here!

GermanNut: Don't you realize that you are talking just as much out of your a** as amazinBimmer and that the reason why Audi has a higher growth rate than the other companies in the bracket is because it is still an upcomming brand and they sell less volume, therefore a higher percent increase is much easier to achieve?
The "experts" saying that Audi will increase their sale with 10% per annum are just guessing! This isn't like putting your money in the bank and watch them grow? It all depends on future products from the competitors and the future products from the company itself... The A5 is exciting news, however, coupés are somewhat of a nieche, the cars which are really going to matter are the next gen. A4, A6 and A8...

"boy it must suck not being able to give respect to a company that will outsell your favorite brand globally within the next 8 years." - Man that is pathetic!

Not saying that these facts are incorrect....

But for GM's sake, lots of GM's new (rather sweet) product line has just recently come out. GM spent the majority of 2007 selling their legacy vehicles (like the 2007 malibu and the buick rendevous). I can't wait to see GM's performance once a new Buick Lacrosse comes out, along with the malibu and CTS (I know the CTS is already out, just wait till the word gets out even more).

GM is doing very well, in the past few years they have made the biggest strides of any automaker. GM is a serious player that FINALLY got their crap together. They go to show, Americans CAN build good cars once the fire is under our asses and the penny-pinchers stay away from the designers and engineers.

Lexus sales are flat for a reason they didn't import many more cars this year than last.In 2009 sales are going to increse by double digits. Lexus has been staying flat until dealers built their new dealerships. They don't want their service to suffer,so the flood gates will open in 2009 look out.
