Spy shots showing a Ford Escape hybrid have surfaced and when asked about it, Ford confirmed the arrival later in 2019 of an electrified Escape.
The new Ford Escape Hybrid will join a host of new Ford models with electric motors including the recently unveiled Ford Explorer hybrid and another utility vehicle Ford refers to as a "Mustang-inspired battery electric performance SUV" expected next year. These three vehicles will be joined in 2020 by an F-150 hybrid.
Ford patents showing a V8 engine flanked by two electric motors recently surfaced and could point to the direction Ford wants to take with its upcoming F-150 hybrid and mysterious electric performance SUV. As for the Ford Escape hybrid, it will probably get some kind of four-cylinder EcoBoost-based hybrid engine with a single electric motor.
Hybrid compact SUVs have proven quite popular in recent years with both the Toyota RAV4 hybrid and Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV exceeding sales expectations.
