The Great US-China Trade War Continues. Just HOW Far Will President Trump Take It? Automakers Argue US Jobs Are At Stake...
It doesn't take a rocket scientist to see that the US-Chinese trade talks have been having a great impact on our economy. Just watch the violent swings in the markets at the uttering of anything trade-related.

It sends shivers down traders' spines.

Although the economic data thus far doesn't point to signs of a recession, you'd think otherwise given the how frenetic some folks are. Perhaps they're stoking the fires for 2020?

One thing's certain: The automakers are right in the crosshairs as it relates to US-Chinese trade talks. And that's why auto manufactuer leaders let The White House know on Friday.

Their case is simple: The current state of trade talks, which has essentially become a back-and-forth escalation, will harm US exports thereby putting US jobs at risk.

Do YOU agree or disagree?

The head of a broad coalition of Japanese, German and South Korean automakers warned on Friday that renewed punitive Chinese tariffs on U.S. autos would hurt U.S. vehicle exports to China and put U.S. jobs at risk.

“The tit-for-tat tariffs, absent any meaningful negotiations, are damaging to the American auto industry,” John Bozzella, who chairs the ad-hoc group “Here for America” that includes Volkswagen AG, Daimler AG and BMW AG, said in a statement...

tRump has already steered the global economy toward a recession with his inept, impulsive tariffs. "A trade war is easy to win." What a stupid statement.

Jeffgail, the TPP agreement Obama administration negotiated with 10 trading partners as a united front was more comprehensive and would not have thrown the world into a recession. It is not that the previous administration did nothing, it is that they too an intelligent and effective approach.
tRump used tariffs like a 3rd grader and so far it is only hurting our farmers, global manufacturers and our allies. Sad.
And no, tRump will lose by a landslide as the moderates who took a chance on him are running away fo to his cowardly kowtowing to the NRA and Putin.

MD, I can refer you to 3 financial sources citing indicators that prove the economic trends happening now are just a continuation of the 7 year expansion that tRump inherited just like he inherited everything else in his life. The tax cut gave a brief albeit short jump, but companies are holding onto that money due to the unreliable environment created by tRumo.
Oh, one trend that did change was after 5 years of decreasing deficits tRump is increasing them - during an expansion. Sad.

Obama had zero experience negotiating anything, he never did a thing in his miserable life prior to ascending to the WH. First thing he did was go on his cow tow, bow to despots, apology tour to be nice to everyone which made the US look like fools and incredibly weak. Oh yea, this line in the sand, he he he huh? Nothing he did was in the best interests of the US because he actually hates the US. He and his pathetic and igorant ilk see the US as the problem, which is insane. A world without a strong America I can assure you will be a frightening place and thats exactly what China wants to see. TPP is a "collective" agreement which says nearly all parties are equal, whereas individual agreements between nations aligns the best interests of the 2 parties. TPP was trash just like the Sec of Hidden Server that negotiated it. DemoRats are cowards and have zero principles other than power. They'd sell this nation to the highest bidder as long as they lined their pockets. The ClintStones are mega millionaires due to their "Public Service" and Barry Soetoro too, worth what $60M from what? A book deal? Any Republican gets a deal like that there would be heck to pay... cowards. Trump works for free and is a fighter and thats why LibTurds hate him, he's awesome and they love trash... Screw you pathetic morons and enjoy the wealth President Trump is putting your miserable pockets... you're losers and know it... enjoy your anger while we totally ignore you and celebrate true leadership. I've wasted enough time with you Proud Boy supporters.
Keep in mind that according to the aforementioned Fox news poll, tRump supporters are older, white, and less educated than the average voter. So a dumber down presidency with a dumber down base is what you get.

Xjug, Obama was partner in a large law firm in Chicago, a professor at Nothwestern (a school you could not get into) and elected to the US senate. tRump inherited daddie's company and drove it into 4 bankruptcies.
He inherited a strong economy. He has added the presidency to his list of many failures.
MD, look in the mirror. You call me triggered and angry yet any criticism of you or your love for this failure of a president and you throw out a name calling tantrum.

tRump will likely lose and he knows it. The only thing this shit-show of an administration has going for it is the economy he inherited (like everything else in his life). It is sputtering toward a recession. Further bad news for the poor students of economics that are tRump followers, it seems that growth last year was weaker than first reported and there were 500,000 fewer jobs added than reported.
THis means that the second term under Obama created more jobs per monthly average and average quarterly growth was higher. So even the strong economy that Putin Bitch inherited he has slowed
while increasing the deficit. What a loser!

The media is pushing the idea of a recession down our throats to prop up the Democratic nominee. But look at recent earnings reports from retailers. They are killing it. Walmart, Target, and Dicks, to name a few, had insane growth in Q2, even with the trade negotiations going. Recessions happen, but not likely in the next 24 months.

Facts - the monthly average job creation under Obama second term was higher than tRump's. The average quarterly growth was higher in Obama's second term is higher than tRump's. Bullshit! China needed to be bitch slapped long and hard ago but the previous administrations let the paper tiger get way too big too fast and now they want to dominate and control the world. What we are witnessing is the ultimate game of chess between 2 worthy yet stubborn opponents and the US has the upper hand long term as it is the biggest consumer market that China needs.

Make no mistake about it as China is hurting from these trade wars and is loosing many companies to other cheaper jurisdictions like India, Vietnam, Thailand and other shithole places to escape the US tariffs and Beijings strong arm Triad tactics. Yes the US is heavily leveraged but China is even more leveraged and any downturn in GDP is disastrous for them. China stands to loose much more and global markets be dammed as everyone is watching Trump take on the 800lb gorilla that needs to be put back in the cage and shown its rightful place in the hierarchy.

Strip China of the "Most Favoured Nation" tax status as they cheat like hell and are free to pollute the envirormnent while we are left to do all the heavy lifting with restrictive regulations and red tape as they dump finished goods here below cost to deliberately kill offshore competition to take over entire market niches at our expense. Sometimes you have to loose a battle to win a war.

Leadership!

The TPP agreement would have forced China to agree to our trade conditions along with our 10 partners in a united front. Most economists lauded this agreement. The only reason DD left it is because it did not have his fake name on it, according to those who worked in the admin at that time.
tRump's tariff will not accomplish what is needed and risk a severe global downturn.
But tRump knows that his followers are just like him and only react with anger.

You may want to look at the unreported Debt to GDP of China - over 300% https://www.reuters.com/article/us-china-economy-debt/chinas-debt-tops-300-of-gdp-now-15-of-global-total-iif-idUSKCN1UD0KD

The trade war is having a significantly greater effect on China than the US, while the Chinese Communist Party has starved its population before, it can only do that to a point or fear the unrest of Hong Kong spread to the mainland.

The only country that can supply the amount of soy and other grains a population of over 1 billion people need is the US. US grain will reach China via a middle man country skirting the tariffs. Then let’s talk about The Chinese domestic pork heard being all but destroyed by by African Swine Flu. https://www.scmp.com/economy/china-economy/article/3007359/chinas-african-swine-fever-crisis-very-serious-stocks-falling

Guess who’s the only country able to supply enough quantity of replacement pork (China’s #1 source of meat) for over 1 billion people? Their tariffs on US products mean nothing, they have been circumvented for years. auto manufacturers have had problems for years of Chinese “students” buying new cars in the US that are exported through Twain and on to the mainland.

Revoke favored Nation Status, kick them out of the WTO, and Trump will break them just like Reagan broke the Soviets. The only question is if it will be peaceful or will it be Tiananmen on steroids.

You will have a lot of problems very soon as a country BUT China will have a lot more problmes than you and it is necessary. Coummunism will fall and when that happens there, they will have the same fate as CCCP (URSS), but in bigger scale and again, It is necessary, otherwise the whole world will be dominated for country ruled by corrupted military. @Yonder7 - China has had 50 years to fall and has a 1M man army. They have also showed no fear and jailing and killing their own people (like most dictatorships) and as we saw with Tiananmen Square. If the people rise up they will be crushed with a lot of blood spilled. It may happen at some point, or the Peoples Party and its corruption may just run its course.

The problems with a trade war - at this level - is that both sides are able and in position to extend this war over DECADES. China does not even budget over short periods of time. ANd of course - our US economy still consumes at a high rate as well.

AS a result - BOTH side could just wait out their positions until neither are still in power - and it could be decades before it sorts itself out -which is something Trump apparently failed to consider. Now - along with his threats to our Allies in Europe - Trump cannot really end in a winning position only with the US economy - if he had brought the EU together and into our side - China would have problems - but right now - the EU has its own deals with China that they are unlikely to abandon for Trump.

But please note - China is not Communist - no country ever came close to the basis for that model. THey may more correctly be called Socialist - but there is still a "RULING" class - something that Communism specifically call for elimination. Global information will eventually take China Down - but again - it is going to take a longer time than RUSSIA because there was a COLD war between Russia and the EU/USA - something we have not yet had with China. AS a result - there is not the same pressure on their Economy in CHINA because their largest customer is the USA - and the EU - a completely different scenario.

Gentlemen , I am located in Panama, Central America. China really wants to own this country and I do not have the power of USA, but If they try, they need to be willing to kill me or die for. Yes USA buys a lot more from China but at same time thats their main source of weakness. Again, this won´t be easy, but you have to fight this war. Trump some times is an ashole and I understand the do not reprensent ALL americans, but HE IS RIGHT on this, and that is part od the democracy. The world is not the same as 50 years ago and what is happening now, will shape our future. I do not hate Chinese but their system (which is pushed by the government), Chinese trend to be even more racist than North Americans think because their government is pushing the Idea they are the greatest country and that's not true, they just the most populated country. That ideolgy is wrong for any country which try to push it. China will fall, it will take more time than with CCCP but they are not able to sustain the army and a economic war at the same time...Sorry for you North Americans...but at the same time is a sacrifice that the whole world needs to do. The main people that wants to avoid this war are the biggest companies because they are not able to see that IF USA lose the battle now, the Chinese will expropriate their wealth.
I apologize for any errors in my english.

In 10-15 years, long after Trump is gone and no longer a "threat", you'll see an article from someone in the leftwing media pose the controversial question "Was Trump's trade war with China the right move after all?"

Of course, by then the US will have lost even more valuable ground due to short-term thinking and political bickering.

Truthy is right about the numbers and you don't have to go to CNN or MSNBC, you can look those numbers up on government websites. Believe it or not that is where CNN, MSNBC and even FOX get their information from. Those are the facts. Dumping 1/2 billion stimulus into an already humming economy was a nice sugar rush...but deficits now totally out of control and clearly no longer responsible budget management is going to lead to another recession. Just like it did at the end of Reagan/Bush, at the end of Bush II and it will with Trump. The time between irresponsible deficits and recessions has dropped due to computers, automation and media/information availability. We will have a recession soon (6-24m) and with no tools left in the tool box because we are using them now for the sugar high.
