If Lexus Brought Back The LFA, What Would Be The

Two in 2018 and three so far in 2019, that’s how many LFAs Lexus sold in North America. Production of the V10 supercar ended late 2012 after 500 units, and yet Toyota’s luxury marque is still selling “brand new” examples. While there aren’t any immediate plans for a direct replacement, at least we now know Lexus is open to the idea of introducing another performance flagship model.

In an interview with Autocar mostly about a new Frankfurt-bound electric hatchback concept, the company’s vice president, Koji Sato, was asked to talk about the prospects of another car in the same vein as the LFA. His answer leaves the door a bit open for a new supercar, but don’t expect it anytime soon:

It would literally take them a decade from start to finish. I've never seen a brand that takes such a long time to launch anything.

If they keep the engine and add a 250hp equivalent battery and electric motors, it would be a very compelling car. A new design that is a bit less weird would be welcome as well.

The real "Must Have" is "buyers" and last time I checked there is still virgin units still available so not quite a commercial success with negligible branding benefits from this niche car so why bother?

Right on, better to focus that investment on the new Supra (whose thunder may have been muted a bit by the C8 Vette) and the LC500. Don't let those two sit there with no changes over the next 3-4 years like they normally do.

IT depends on how much money that Toyota is willing to lose on every one they sell - Like that other EV company - they can make it up in Volume (Tongue in cheek).

At some point - Toyota has to come to the realization that the LFA - was a failed concept - and move on - About the only thing I would believe people would spend money on - would be a vehicle that also mints usable cash - and has a Yoda Hand - that waves Police away from stopping you on the road. Even that might not be enough.

The LC is the new LFA.

The LFA was laughed at because it had no relation in any way to real Lexus products.

A new LFA would be a dumb move.

Auto locking doors. That should keep Lexless engineers busy.

The market is just not ready for a $375k Japanese car yet. Regardless of how good it is. Even at $200k, the NSX is having a hard time. Even Audi is having a hard time with the R8 and the list goes on...
