Tesla App Suffers Outage Locking Owners Out Their Vehicles For Up To 4 Hours

It’s a terrible feeling when you realize you’re either locked out of your car or it won’t start at all. Recently, several Tesla owners found themselves stranded when the company’s app went down for a few hours over the holiday weekend.

Tesla’s app, which you can download onto your smart phone and use to activate the phone key feature, went down for a few hours yesterday evening, reports NBC Bay Area. The outlet checked Downdetector.com and found that the outage lasted for about four hours.

The Model S doesn't have the same Phone-key function as the Model 3. With the 3 this is an impossible situation since the phone pairs via bluetooth. With the S, you need to use the app to use the phone as a key (for now).

I guess it's just too hard for them to bother carrying the key card with them. Might but a bulge in their pants pocket I guess.

The stupid part is that the car is capable of using Bluetooth/WiFi (not sure which) to let the phone connect to the car without using the Tesla servers. Don't these owners know how their systems work?
