My daughter had three different Beetles, including a 1968 that I restored as her first VW. But you can't pry her fingers away from her GTI now.

Yikes. GTI sales are tanking.

A GTI and a Golf R are nice vehicles. However they look boring and there is too much competition. The GTI Autoban version is 35K but looks just like a base Golf. A Hyundai Veloster N (admittedly with a cheaper quality interior) is 5 grand less and has significantly more power. The Jetta is larger and less money. This is clearly reflected in sales. further once VW comes out with its smaller CUV the Golf(all models) is going to be history in the US.

The GTI is also too expensive for its own good.
