Clearly GM is not going to put themselves in a position they were in 2008. So closing plants and investing in EV tech is a logical and financially prudent way to go. If vehicles aren't selling they have no choice. Unlike Trump Mary Barra does not make rash, emotional, off the cuff decisions. If you have to give farmers a financial bone due to tarrifs and a China trade war how is that sound economics. So many conservative believe that China has more to lose in a trade war with the US. However being that they are an autocratic state(that Trump wishes the US was)there are prepared to stick it out. They will never ever give in to the US on this. We are in for a lot of potential economic hurt if this goes long term.
